The Commission convened on the foregoing date with Mayor Hyett presiding and Commissioners Allinand Surber and City Secretary Jarrard in attendance. Besides the abqveOf'f'ieials,Dr.Elva Wright and Mr. Robt. S.9.nfieldwere also present. The purpose of the meeting was to pass ,an Ordinance extending the time f'or the payment of 1933 from Dec. 3l~ 1933 to February 3rd~ 1934. Mr.Metcalf asked permission to build a Boy Scoutts build- ing approximately l8'X24' on the City grounds at the Water Plant on-COllege at Milton Street. This was granted, the Mayor advised that when he was ready, he would be very glad to help select a location, Which would not interfere with the operation of the water system. Mr.N.H.Freeman complained regarding an exc.essive lJ!ater bill and claimed that he was due an allowance. Mr.Harris advised tba t he thought an adjustment should be made. A motion to adjust was made by Co~issioner Allen, and due to Commissioner Surber refusing to second the motion, Mayor Hyett seconded same. Voting Aye:; Commissioner Allen and Mayor Hyett. NG~:: Commissioner Surber. The Secretary presented the completed 1934 Tax Rolls for approval, which.Tetals~ Valuations $4,367,251.00 and amounts to $65,514.65 Taxes. . . -. . A motion approving the Rol~s was made by Commissioner Allen and duly seconded by Cemmi~sioner Surber. The Secretary called the attention of' the Council that December 31, 1934 waJ::i the last date for the paJ'lllent of 1934 taxes without penalty and interest. In as much as there has been several requests from residents and other taxpayers to extend the date for the paJ'lllent of 1934 taxes to January 31, 1935. ~he Council refused to ~xtend the time to January 31, 1935, but instruct- ed'the Secretary and Tax Collector to extend the date to January 18th, 1935, and to hold the books open until this date and credit all collections made on 1934 taxes as of December 31st, 1934. The Secretary was instructed to have notices sent to property owners notifying them that the t~e for the payment of 1934 taxes haa been extended from December 31st, 1934 to January 18th, 1935 inclUSive, and given authority to employ U.R.Bronk for a few days to type these notices. The Secretary was again instructed to write a letter to the State Comptroller instructing him not to exchange any more bonds for warrants or script without first notifying the City of West University ~lace. Mayor Hyett advised that he received a letter from Mr. Nagle, Engineer of the City of Houston, calling our at- tention to the condition of our sanitary sewer system. Mayor Hyett advised him that the City of West University Place woUld be very glad to furnish a man to work with them in making a survey to their entire satisfaction.
