WEST UNIVERSITY SENIOR SERVICES ADVISORY BOARD MEETING MINUTES
10/13/2005
Meeting called to order at 2:30 PM.
Attendees: John Neighbors, Stan McCandless, Joe Graf, Carolyn Sacchi, Cathy Wright, Elizabeth
Young, Joan Johnson, Mary Ryerson, Betty Aillet, Maureen Beck, Lyndon McKnight, and Jo Lukens.
Staff present was Toby Dykema. No Council member was present. Absent was Rolla Long.
Previous meetings minutes were sent to Board members with agenda and no changes were suggested.
Previews and Sneak Previews were not reviewed.
REPORTS
APAC: There will be a meeting on 10/24/05 to define the Texas position on issues for the White House
Conference on Aging. Dignity (names not numbers) and a higher minimum wage for seniors that enter
the work force are priority issues. AAA is assisting Katrina victims.
COUNCIL MEETING REPORT: No report.
GOOD NEIGHBOR TEAM: The handyman program is expanding with new members.
HI NEIGHBOR NEWSLETTER: A Newsletter just went out. Many activities were included.
ACTIVITY REPORT: The Antique Fair was a great activity. The San Bernard River Trip has to be
rescheduled.
MASTER PARKS PLANNING TASK FORCE REPORT: The five focus groups are in the process
of assimilating key issues for a final report.
PREVIOUS BUSINESS: The garage sale is on for 10/28. Items to donate should be delivered to
Toby by 10/27. Items such as shoes, towels, sheets, makeup are good sellers. First Responders is
postponed until next month's Board meeting. We need to repeat and stress drug coverage education for
our Seniors. The Thanksgiving card from the Good Neighbor Team could be utilized for this purpose.
NEW BUSINESS: A Next of Kin Registry will be featured in the next Newsletter. Our list will be
compiled and passed on to the National Registry for Critical Care Customers. Our homebound list was
contacted prior to Rita's landfall to see if assistance was needed.
