APAC: Funding ideas were discussed and helpful agencies are posted on Senior Services bulletin board. Council Meeting Report: No Report Good Neighbor Team/Flying Squad Report: Topics discussed at last meeting were repair projects program, transportation program (declining), new Senior survey, and value of a Block Captain program to identify Seniors in need. Approximately ninety deliveries were made of cards and candy for July Fourth. Hi Neighbor Newsletter: Newsletter sent out 8/11. Newspaper advertisers are helping to defray costs and improve appearance. Activity Report: Activities are great. Computer availability might need to be stressed. Janiss is putting up a suggestion box for ideas and comments on Senior activities. Previous Business: None New Business: It was suggested Health Fair be broadened to include ins and outs of the decision process Seniors must go through when debating staying in home or moving to assisted living (reverse mortgages, for example). Consider expanding our programs with seminars, etc. to address such issues was also suggested. Advertising for a West U. handyman to do voluntary and for-hire work is being pursued. Qualification for voluntary/pro bono should be a committee determination. Tree trimming services are also badly needed for Seniors. The ramifications of Senior Services qualifying as a non- profit should be explored, and a visit by Tim, John and Stan to the LaPorte organization that has already accomplished this in the planning stages. The availability of additional funding for the Seniors' programs should be a focus of these efforts. Meeting Adjourned at 3:02 PM.
