CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL AND REGULAR SESSION MINUTES
MONDAY, MARCH 24, 2008

Mayor Kelly called the Special Meeting to order at 5:30 p.m.
The Mayor publicly announced that a closed executive session would be held. The Closed
Executive Meeting began at 5:31 p.m.
1. Security at City Facilities. Matters related to security at City Facilities presented by
City Manager, Michael Ross and Police Chief Ken Walker.
The closed executive meeting was adjourned at 5:45 p.m.
A motion was made to reconvene the Special Meeting at 5:50 p.m.

Mayor Kelly introduced two local students, Alex Wasserstrom who won the opportunity to be
Mayor for the Day, and his friend Bailey Ethier who is the Mayor Pro- Tem for the day.
2. Parks and Recreation Five-Year Playground Renovation Project Proposal. Matters
related to a five-year playground renovation program beginning in 2008 and concluding
in 2012 presented by Parks and Recreation Director, Tim O'Connor.

Mayor Kelly called the Regular Meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers.
Mayor Kelly introduced students Alex Wasserstrom as the Mayor for the Day and Bailey Ethier
as the Mayor Pro-Tern.
Pledge of Allegiance was led by Bailey Ethier.
Pledge to the Texas Flag was led by Alex Wasserstrom.
Notice. The notice for this meeting was posted in accordance with the Texas Government Code,
Chapter 551, on the 19th day of March 2008 at 4:00 p.m.

Ramsey Elder - 2821 Tangley - commented to the Council that parkland acquisition should be a
number one priority.
Citizens who wish to address agenda items
Mardi Turner - 6515 Mercer - Thanked the Siegel family for their donation to the Friends of
West University Place Inc. for the purchase of playground equipment at Whitt Johnson Park.
She also recognized John LaMond for his Eagle Scout beautification project at the park.
3. Senior Services Board. Matters related to the Senior Services Board appointment of
Marueen Graf.

improvement project for Whitt Johnson Park made possible from a donation to the

Council Member Reports.
Councilmember Guffey reported on the Good Neighbor Team and their delivery of 150 baskets
to senior citizens over the age of 85. He commented by doing this they are able to gather
information on their well being.
City Manager Report.
Michael Ross commented on the continuing struggles with the heater at Colonial Pool.
