ORDTNANCE NO. 158.
AN ORDINANCE MJIENDING PARAGRAPH FOURTH OF THE
ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF WEST UNIVERSITY PLACE,
TEXAS, ADOPTED FEBRUARY 24, 1939 with REFERn~CE
TOT HE ELECTION TO DETERI~iINE WHETHER OR NOT A COM-
MISSION SHALL BE CHOSEN TO FRAME A NEW CHARTER
AND FOR THE ELECTION OF A CHARTER COMMISSION OF
NOT LESS THAN FIFTEEN IvIEI\iIBERS OR MO HE THAN ONE
MEMBER FOR EACH 3,000 INHABITANTS;.AND, PROVIDING
TF~T THIS ORDINANCE TAKE EFFECT AND BE IN FORCE
IMMEDIATELY FROM AND AFTER ITS PASSAGE AND APPROV-
AL.
WHEREAS, an official census of the city of West
University Place, Texas, was talcen on December 12, 1938, a.nd
upon a canvass thereof,by the Board of Commissioners of the City
it was determined and f01.LYld' on Decemb er 30, 1938, that the popu-
lation of such City was 6198, and,
WHERR~S, the City, having a, population of more
than 5,000 inhabitants, is entitled under the Constitution
and laws of this State to adopt a home rule charter if a maj-
ority of the qualified voters of the city so desire, and

1NHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners desires to
submit ito the qualified voters of the l..iity the question flShall
a commission be chosen to frame a new chartertf, and also to
provide for the election of a charter commission of not less
than 15 members or more than one member for each 3,000inhabi-
tan ts, and
WHERR~S, the next regular municipal election is to
be held on April 4, 1939, which is not less than 30 nor more
than 90d~ys after the passage of this ordinance, and under the
provisions of Article 1166 of the Revised Civil Statut-es this
election should be held at the same time as the regular munici-
pal election within the City, and
WtiEREAS, an ordinance calling such election was
adopted by the Board of Commissioners on Fwbruary 24, 1939, but
it is necessary to amend paragraph II Four thl thereof wi th refer-
ence to the election officers appointed to hold the election.
THEREFORE, BE I'll OFJ)AINED BY THE BOARD OF COlVllVIIS-
SIONERS OF THE CITY OF WEST UNIVERSITY PLACE, TEXAS:
FIRST
That paragraph lIFourthtf of ordinance No. 155 adopted
on February 24, 1939 be amended to read as follows:
