HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrd 155 - Official Census/Calling for a Charter Election L [: .lj 33 omTNANITR Nn, lSS STA~lE OF TElMS COUNTY OF ffJ..RRIS CITY OF (NEST UNIVERSITY PLACE: vVhereas, an official census of the City of West University Place, Texas, was taken on December l2~ 1938~ 0nd upon a canvass thereof by the Board of COD~nissioners of the City it was determined and found on December 30, 1938, that the population of such City was 6l98; and _ WHEREAS, the City, having a population of more than 5,0000 inhabitants, is entitled under the Constitution and Laws of this State to adopt a home rule charter if a maj- ority of the Qualified voters of the City so desire, and WHEREAS, the Board of Co@uissioners desires to submit to the qUalified voters of the City the question llshall a commission be chosen to frame a new charterll, and also to provide for the election of a charter commission of not less than 15 members or more than one member for each 3,000 inhabi- tants, and WHEREAS, the next regular municipal election is to be held on April 4, 1939, which is not less than 30 nore more than 90 days after the passage of this ordinance, and under the provisions of Article 1166 of the Revised Civil Statutes this election sh~uld be held at the same time as the regular municipal election within the City. THEREFORE, BE IT 0 RDAINED BY THE BOARD OF COIvI- MISSI01\TERS OF THE CITY OF WEST U,TVERSITY PLACE, TEXAS: - FIRST There shall be held an election within the cor- porate limits of the City of ~est University Place, Texas, on April 4, 1939, for the purpose of submitting to the qualified voters of said City the question II shall, a connnission be chosen to frame a new charterl1, and for the purpose of electing from the City at large a charter commission of not less than 15 members, nor more than one member for each 3,000 inhabitants. SECOND - The polling place shall be at the city hall of the city of West University Place. --. -' L _I IT .
