Senior Board Meeting
November 14, 2024
Call to Order: 2:02 pm

First section covered ideas for repurposing a few small areas of the rec center.
Second session covered ideas for civic center, followed by wide ranging discussion.
Reports: Toby Brooks, Senior Services—Memory/Cookbooks selling fast. Wind down Weds Yoga a success, 2 bus trips full-one to Cinderella and one to zoo. Classes doing well, rooms full
with some new mahjongg and more pickleball.
Susan White, Parks & Rec—All fall events went well:
Fathers & Flashlights had rain and Lightening…Fall Moon Fest and Halloween Dash bigger than ever. Improvements to track around colonial park are coming. Tree Lighting festivity set for
Dec 2nd. Special thanks to Friends of WU Parks who spent One Million Dollars on the improvements at Weir Park.
Toby Brooks’ position has been filled. A press release will be coming out soon. The new director will begin Jan. 2 with Toby staying on for the month to help with the transition.
Karen Kenny—APAC meeting was covered by Geri Wood who sent out the minutes to everyone
Good Neighbor Team—Soraya Brombacher and Angela Mahmarian have agreed to take over as co-chairs of the good neighbor team.
City Council—busy fall—3 meetings and 1 townhall. New Milton Waterline received funding via Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher of $2 million, city will contribute $650 thousand.
Charter Review Committee coming up (does every 6 years) some items being considered—attendance requirements, # of meetings per month,staggering council terms, who city secretary should
report to—Mgr, or council
Pedestrian mobility and safety in and around city center as well as intersections at Wesleyan and Buffalo Speedway a group brought concerns to council. Police also looking into it.
Pavers on Buffalo city is taking action, were improperly installed.
Phase I progress slowed due to engineer cancelling contract. Phase II, III & IV see reference cited above for all the latest. City Hall may move to Rice & Auden, fire station build/reno
roughly at
Auden & University.
