I. Call to Order: Senior Board Chair, Ann Crowley
a. Meeting called to order at 2:00pm
II. Attendance
a. Attendance:
i. Present—Ann Crowley, Robin Burks, George Hildebrandt, Kay Bryan, Debbie Pedrick,
Geri Wood, Laura Turley, Candyce Beneke, Eileen O’Neill, Diana Ayers, Jennifer Sickman,
Angela Mahmarian
ii. Absent: Gloria Nino Monacelli, Teresa George-Hung, Karen Kenny, Soraya Brombacher
III. Approval of Minutes from April 10, 2025
a. Diane Ayers motions, Candyce Beneke Second.
IV. John Montgomery Report:
a. There will be a new Senior Board Liaison
b. Discussed the West Side Drainage Project, encouraged residents to get involved in learning
about projects.
c. Board Members asked questions to him regarding City Council meeting agenda items and
schedule for Citizen comments during City Council meetings.
d. Ann thanked John for his service to the Senior Board as today was his last Senior Board Meeting.
V. Dementia Friends – Group Photo
a. Took a group photo with certificates from our training at the April meeting.
VI. Sing-Along Planning: Who, What, When, Where, Why
a. Ann facilitated a group discussion. See “DISCUSSION NOTES” at the end of these minutes.
VII. Proclamation – Volunteer & Older Americans Month
a. Michelle gave reminder that we are celebrating Volunteer & Older Americans Month. She
showed pictures that were taken at the April 28th council meeting with the proclamation from
Mayor Sample.
VIII. Monthly Reports
a. Senior Services Manager, Michelle Blunt
i. Zero Waste program has begun at the Senior Center.
ii. Shared the weekly celebration schedule for May, to celebrate the Proclamation.
b. Parks & Recreation Director, Susan White
i. Discussed potential Recreation Center Updates – 15 year refresh.
ii. Discussed Tennis & Pickleball at Wier Park
iii. Parks Master Plan & Boards – serve until New Council has selected new board. New City
Secretary to send out application information later this year.
iv. Shared upcoming Parks & Rec Special Events.
c. Good Neighbor Team, Angela Mahmarian
i. Angela informed the board there are 38 volunteers, 149 recipients, 124 households.
ii. June 3 next delivery.
d. APAC
i. Karen was out. Geri Wood gave an update on upcoming conferences in May.
ii. Noted changes with Social Security Office hours.
e. City Council, John Montgomery (gave report early)
IX. Citizen Comments
a. Carlos and Alida expressed comments.

“DISCUSSION NOTES” Discussion Notes—Sing along to Choir……..Sr. Bd Meeting May 8, 2025
WHO:
Possible resources—
Susan Davis, St. John’s former bd. Member
Tyra Hunter, Carepartners—attended a Bd meeting last year
Possible participants:
GNT
Sr. Living places, activity directors
Churches, Syngogues, JCC
Choir folks
Schools, H.S., Rice
NCL
Theme meals
At present Michelle and Karen are leading, as we evolve into a ‘choir’ we would need to find a director
WHAT:
Music & socialization
Michelle & Karen in contact with a mentor
Will have access to sheet music and tapes
Can we get “bouncing lyrics” like at a karaoke night to show on screen?
Community sing along—hesitation to emphasize dementia exclusively
Could try a bit of singing at theme meals…
Want to cast a broad net to get a wide range of people involved from the beginning
If it is fun, people will want to come back
WHEN:
To start—they have scheduled
2nd Monday of the month for September, October & November
10:00am
Morning often best for dementia people
Could we ever consider a weekend option, pros & cons
WHERE:
WU Community Bldg. John Neighbors room to start..
We can provide transport for GNT folks who do not drive
WHY:
Music shares friendship, Part of Sr. Bd Mission is social and community engagement as well as wellness. Need to
gather data about role of music in decreasing isolation and improving quality of life for individuals with dementia
