ORDINANCE NUMBER 983
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 974 TO APPROPRIATE AN
ADDITIONAL SUM OF $5,997.73 TO PAY THE COST OF PURCHASING
A NEW 300 H.P. ELECTRIC MOTOR AND APPURTENANCES FOR INSTAL-
LATION ON WATER WELL #6; AND FOR COST OF A NEW 8-STAGE PUMP
AND FITTINGS INSTALLED IN WATER WELL #5; FINDING AND DETER-
MINING THAT THE FINAL COST FOR SUCH ELECTRIC MOTOR, NEW PUMP
AND ADDITIONAL WORK AMOUNTS TO $5,997.73 MORE THAN ORIGINALLY
APPROPRIATED; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, Layne Texas Company, Inc. was engaged to make necessary
repairs to water well nos. 3, 5 and 6 of the City of West University Place, on
a force account basis; and
WHEREAS, it was determined at the time of the passage of Ordinance
No. 974 authorizing the reworking of the said water wells that the estimated
quotation for furnishing necessary column, pumps, shafting, new pump parts,
reworking rig, labor, tools and suppl ies might exceed the estimate of such
actual work and that an exact price could not be determined until the final
work was completed; and
WHEREAS, it was determined advisable to purchase a new 300 h.p.
electric motor instead of having an existing one rewound, and after the pump
in water well no. 5 had been pulled it was determined advisable to purchase
a new one instead of reworking the old one which was more than twenty (20)
years old; and
WHEREAS, the purchase of said 300 h.p. electric motor and new
8-stage pump was approved by the City Commission; and
WHEREAS, all of the work contemplated for reworking of wells 3, 5
and 6 has now been completed to the satisfaction of the City Commission and
a final statement rendered by Layne Texas Company, Inc. for such work and
equipment.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF WEST UNIVERSITY PLACE, TEXAS:
Section 1. That the City Commission hereby finds and determines
that the total amount of $22,497.73 contained in a statement from Layne Texas
Company, Inc. for services rendered in connection with the reworking and lower-
ing of pumps in water well nos. 3, 5 and 6, and the purchase of a new 300 h.p.
motor and a new 8-stage pump, was a necessary expense for rehabil itation of
the cityls water wells.
Section 2. That due to repairs and new equipment needed which
could not be forseen at the time of engaging Layne Texas Company, Inc. to
perform the reworking of the cityls water wells, the actual expense exceeds
the amount appropriated by the sum of $5,997.73.
Section 3. That the sum of $5,997.73 is hereby appropriated to pay
the additional amount required for reworking said water wells and furnishing
new electric motor and new pump.

Section 4. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force
immediately after its passage and approval.
