HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrd 958 - Amending Code Of ORD Reward $50 for Destroying or Defacing 174 ORDINANCE NUMBER 958 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF WEST UNIVERSITY PLACE, TEXAS BY THE ADDITION OF A SECTION PROVIDING FOR A REWARD OF $50.00 FOR DESTROYING OR DEFACING TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES; PROVIDING FOR A REWARD OF $100.00 FOR THE DESTRUCTION OR REMOVAL OF PARK PROPERTY; PROVIDING FOR THE CONDITIONS UNDER WHICH SUCH REWARD IS PAYABLE AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF WEST UNIVERSITY PLACE, TEXAS: Section 1, That the Code of Ordinances of the City of West Univer- sity Place, Texas is hereby amended by adding a section to be numbered Sec- tion 16-18, which said section shall read as follows: IISection 16-18. (a) The city hereby offers a reward of $50,00 to be paid to any person furnishing information leading to the arrest and conviction of any person willfully and without lawful authority attempting to, or in fact altering, defacing, injuring, knocking down or removing any official traffic control device or any inscription, shield or insignia thereon or any other part thereof. (b) The city hereby offers a reward of $100.00 to be paid to any person furnishing information leading to the arrest and conviction of any person willfully and without lawful authority attempting to, or in fact injuring, damaging, defacing or removing any park equipment or any trees or shrubbery in any public park or public place in the city. (c) Any person claiming the right to be paid a reward under the provisions of this section must file a notice of such claim, in writing, with the City Commission no later than ninety (90) days from and after the date of the conviction of any person for doing such criminal act in any court of competent jurisdiction. Such notice shall fully state the circumstances under which such person laid the information before the authorities leading to the arrest and conviction of the criminal, the full name of the claimant, and the name and address of any witnesses upon whom claimant relies to verify his claim. (d) Appropriate signs notifying the public of the rewards provided for herein shall be displayed at various places in the city.11 Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect immediately from an after its passage and approval as required by law. PASSED AND APPROVED this 14th day of June, 1971.
