HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrd 944 - ORD Calling Election Within City for 3rd Nov, 1970 1e;o jJ. t.I ORDINANCE NUMBER 944 AN ORDINANCE CALLING AN F.LECTION WITHIN T1IE CITY OF IrJEST UNIVERSITY PhA.CE, TEXAS FOR 'r1IE TRIED DAY OF NOVErvIBER; 1970; FOR T1IE PURPOSE OF ELECTING A W\.YOR AND FOUR (4) COMMISSIONERS TO SERVE FOR A TERM OF THO (2) YEARS :'E.l-\.CH; DESIGNATING THE POLLING PLACES; APPOINTING ELECTION OFFICIALS THEREFOR; PROVIDING THAT ALL DULY QUALIFIED RESIDENT ELECTORS SHALL BE QUALIFIED TO VOTE; PRESCRIB- ING THE FORM OF BALLOT; PROVIDING FOR NOTICE OF ELECTION; CONTAINING OTHER PROVISIONS RELATING TO SAID ELECTION AND PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY. NOW; THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY CO~~SSION OF THE CITY OF IVEST UNIVERSI'rY PhACE; TEXAS: Section 1. That a general election shall be held in the of West University Place; Texas on November 3; 1970; being the first Tuesday following the first Monday in Nov'ember; for the purpose of electing a Mayor and four (4) Commissioners of said city; each to serve a full two year term. Section 2. 'l"nat said election shall be held in each of the four (4) election precincts heretofore established by the Comllissioners' Court of Harris County; Texas, to-wit: Precinct Polling Place Election Official 183 \iTest University Place Street Department Building 3820 Milton Street Jess Darling - Presiding Judge Horace Rice - Alternate Presiding Judge 133 West University Place City Hall 3800 University Boulevard Sidney Yoder - Pres Vrrs. Sidney Yoder - Alternate Presiding Judge 87 West University Place Elementary School 3756 University Boulevard Ben K. Green - Presiding Judge Vincent Fromen - Alternate Presiding Judge 15 West Univers Place Co~uunity Building 6104 Auden Street Mrs. Robert Abel; Jr. - Pres Judge Mrs. Warren Davis - Alternate Presiding Judge Each polling place and the polls thereat shall be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p,m. on said election date. There shall be two (2) clerks for each election precinct to be appointed by the presiding judge for each such precinct. Sectio:J. 3. The judges and clerks of said electio:J. shall receive $12.50 per te:J. (10) hour day; plus .25 per hour for any time in excess of a days work. The judge who delivers the returns i~TIediately after the votes have been counted shall be paid $5,00 for that service. Section 4. Ballots in such election shall be voted use of a voting machine of the type approved by the Secretary of State according to Article 7.14 of the Texas Election Code. 151 Section 5. That for absentee voting paper ballots shall be used and absentee voting shall be conducted by the City Secretary and his assistants for conducting absentee voting. The place where absentee voting shall be con- ducted is the City Hall) University Boulevard) Houston) Texas 7(005) which is also the absentee voting official's address to which ballot applications and ballots voted by mail may be sent. Said Secretary and his assistants shall keep said office open for at least nine (9 hours) that is) from 8:00 a,m. to 6:00 p.m. on each day for absentee voting which is not a Saturday) a Sunday or an official state holiday) all as required in Article 5.05 of the Texas Election Code) titled Absentee Voting. Section 6. That notice of the election ordered and called sahlI be given by posting a copy of this ordinance and notice ordering the election, signed by the Mayor, at the proper place at each of the respective polling places as designated herein) said notice to be posted not less than twenty (20) days prior to the date set herein for such election. Section 7. That all duly qualified resident electors of the City of West University Place shall be qualified to vote.
