HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrd 904 Calling an Election Nov 5,1968 84 ORDINANCE IITlliffiER 904 JLN ORDINANCE CALLING AN ELECTION WITHIN THE CITY OF WEST UNIVERSITY PLiiCE, TEY,AS FOR THE FIFTH DAY OF NOVEMBER, 1968 FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING A MAYOR AND FOUR (4) COM- MISSIOJIJ'ERS TO SERVE FOR A TERM OF TWO (2) YEARS EliCH; DE- SIGNATING THE POLLING PLACES: APPOINTING ELECTION OFFICIALS THEREFOR; PROVIDING TfillT ALL DULY QUALIFIED RESIDENT ELECTORS SHALL BE QUALIFIED TO VOTE; PRESCRIBING THE FORM OF BALLOT; PROVI:DING FOR NOTICE OF ELECTION; CONTAINING OTHER PROVISIONS RELATING TO SAID ELECTION AND PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COfl]JVlISSION OF THE CITY OF WEST UDTIVERSITY PLACE, TE~A.S: Section~, That a general election shall be held in the University Place, Texas on November 5, , being the first Tuesday the first Monday in November, for the purpose of electing a Commissioners of said each to serve a full two year terra. Section 2. That said election shall be held in each of the four (4) election pa-::ecincts heretofore established by the Commissioners' Court of Hc>rri County, Texas, to-wit: Precinct Polling Place Election Official West Univers Place Street Department 3820 Milton Street Jess - Pres Mrs. Nell Lee - Alternate Pres 133 West Univers Place Hall 3800 University Boulevard Sidney - Yoder - Pres Mrs. Sidney Yoder - Alterna"0e Pres 87 West Univers Place Elementary School 3756 University Boulevard Ben K. Green - Pres Vincnet Fromen - Alternate Presiding Judge West University Place Community 6104 Auden Street L. B. Bricker - Pres Robert D, Abel, Jr. Alternate Pres Judge Each place and the polls thereat shall be open from 7:00 a. . to 7:00 p.m. on said election date. Section Lf. Ballots in such election shall be voted use of a machine of the type approved by the Secretary of State according to Article of the Texas Election Code. 85 Section 5. That for absentee voting paper ballots shall be used and absentee voting shall be conducted by the C Secretary and his assistants for conducting absentee vot The place where absentee shall be conducted is the City Hall, 3800 Univers Boulevard, Houston, Texas 77005, which is also the absentee voting official's address to which ballot applications and ballots voted by mail may be sent. Said City Secretary and his assistants shall keep said office open for at least ) hours, that is, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on each for absentee \'lhich is not a Saturday, a Sunday or an official holi- day, all as required in Subdivision 3d, Article 5.05 of the Texas Election Code, titled Absentee Voting. Section 6. That notice of the election hereby ordered and called shall by posting a copy of this ordinance and notice ordering the election, s the Mayor, at the proper place at each of the respective polling as designated herein, said notice to be posted not less than twenty (20) days prior to the date set herein for such election. Section 7. That all duly qualified resident electors of the City of West University Place shall be qualified to vote. Section 8. That the City Secretary is hereby directed to give notice of said election in accordance with law. Section 9. If any section, sentence, clause, phrase or portion of this ordinance shall for any reason be held invalid or unconstitutional by any court of competent jurisdiction, such shall not affect the validity of the remaining provi- sions thereof.
