AN ORDINANCE PERJ\UTT ING THE MAYOR TO APPOINT SUCH POLICE OFFICERS:
IN irHE CITY OF vVEST UNIVEHSITY PLACE, IN ADDITION TO THE CITY

B~ IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WEST
UNIVERSITY PLACE:
Section 1.
The mayor is hereby authorized to appoint such person or
persons as in his discretion may seem necessary to serve, as

policemen in the City of West University Place.
Section 2.

Such policem~n are' charged with the duties of preserving
public peace, protection, preventing crime, arresting offenders,

protect ing the rights of persons and proper;ty, preserving order

at elections, public meetings and public places, preventing and
making off possible nuisances on any of the streets, highways,

alleys, waters and other places, the enforcement of the Penal
Code of the State of Texas and the ordinances of the City of
West Un iVeral ty P3-ace, and of perf orming and di schaTging-,such

other duties as are ,now or may hereafter be imposed upon them
by the laws of the State of Texas and by the ordinances of--

city council.
Section ~-).
Each policeman shall receive as his compensation such
fees, in criminal cases, as are prescribed by Article 3 of
Ordinance No. 19 of the City of West University Place, but
prOVided that if he per'forms any chJ,ties where the fee is not
p~escribed in said ordinance, then he shall receive as. co~pen-

by the laws of this State for the character ,or'duty performed,
and he shall receive such further compensation as may be
allowed to him by the city council.
Section 4.
c The fact that no ordinances are now in force whereby
the mayor is authorized to appoint policemen for the City of
West University Place~ and there is imperative need for the
appointment of policemen in order to enforce the State laws
and the laws and ordinances of the City of West University
Place, creates an emergency and an imperative public necessity,
wherefore the second and third readings of this ordinance are
hereby suspended and this ordinanc~ shall become effective

immediately upon its passage, approval and publication as
required b;,T law.
