AN ORDINANCE CREATING A DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEAIJTH F'OR THE
CITY OF WEST UNIVERSITY PLACE, PROVIDING FOR THE APPOINTI~ENT OF
A PUBLIC HEAI,TH OFFICER, PRESCRIBING THE QUALIPICATIONS OF SUCH
OFFICER, DEFINING HIS DU~IES, DEFINING HIS POWER AND AUTHORITY,
FIXING THE COMPENSATION TO BE PAID TO SUCH OFFICER, REPEALING
ALL PRIOR ORDINANCES, AND 'DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WEST
UNIVERSITY PLACE:
Section 1.
That there is hereby created a Department of Public
Health for said City.

That the mayor of said City shall have authority to
appoint a suitable person to the office of Public Health Officer,
but such officer shall not enter upon the discharge of his
duties until his appointment shall have been confirmed by the
city council.
Section 3.
No person shall be elegible to theappointme~t of Health
Officer under this ordinance unless he is a duly licensed~nd
practicing physician, with liceni6 t~'practice in the State of

Texas, and duly registered as requir.ed by law.
Section 4.
The Public Health Officer of said City shall perform
all such duties as are imposed by law upon city health officers
and in addition thereto he shaLl, perform such other duties as
may be imposed by ordinance or by resolution of the city
CCUYicil, and he shall exercise all the power' and the authori t"r
as is given by general laws of this state to city health officers
and s1.:1.oh further power and authority as may be granted to him

Section.5.
The pUblic Health Officer o~ said City shall receive,
as compensatim for his services, Isuch salary or other compen-
sat ion as may be allowed to him by ordinance or by resulution

Section 6.
That all prior ordinances covering the subject-matter
of this ordinance and all prto11 ordinances or any ,parts there of

that are in conflict herewith~ be and the same are hereby
repealed.
Section 7.
The fact that certain original city ordinances are lost
or misplaced and/or there is conflict between ordinances and

confusion concerning ordinances, creates an emergency and an

imperative public necessity, wherefore the second and third

readings of this ordinance are hereby suspended and this
ordinance shall become effective immediately upon its passage,
approval and publication as required
