AN ORDINANCE CREATING THE OFPICE OF CITY MARSHAL, PROVIDING.FOn
HIS APPOINTMENT, DEFINING HIS DUTIES, FIXING THE COMPENSATION
OF SAID OFFICE, REPEP.LING ALL PRIOR ORDINANCES, AND DECLARING
AN EMERGENCY.

. That the office of City Marshal be, and: the s~me is
Section 1.
hereby .created.
.Section 2.
That the mayor shall have power to appoint the City
:Marshal, but such appointment shall not be effective until such
appointment shall have been confirmed by majority vote of the
City Councfl, provided however, that in the event of a vacancy
in said oftice, the mayor may appoint any elegible person' t9
fill the same until the next regulal~ meeting of the City Council,
at which time the mayor shall submit to the council, the name
of his ~ominee, and if such nominee be rejected by the council,
and no other person appointed and,confirmed at such meeting of
the council, then the mayor shall have power to appoint some
other person to serve as City Marshal until the next regular
meeting of the council.
Section 3.
The City Marshal shall pel'fol'ill the dutie s of a police
officer within the corporate limits of the City of West
University Place, and he shall perform all of the duties which
are imposed by the genal's.l laws of this State U~JOn a Oi t-y'
Marshal, and such otxler duties as may hereafter be imposed upon
him by ordinance of the CIty CouncIl.

Section 4.
The City Marshal shall receive, as his compensation, suoh
fees, in cr1.minal cases, as are prescribed by the laws of this
State to be paid to a constable for similar services, and he
shall receive such further compensation as may be allowed to him

by the council.

Section 5.
That all prior ordinances covering the subject-matter of
this ordinance and all prior ordinances or any parts thereof
that are in conflict here'wi. th, be and the same a-re hereby
repealed.
Secti on 6.
The fact that certain original city ordinances are lost
or misplaced and/or there is conflict between ordtnances and
confusion concerning C?rdinances,' creates an arnerg"ency and an
]
imperative public neces,sity, wherefore the second and third
readings of this ordinance are hereby suspended and this ordinance
shall become effective :immediately upon its passage, approval and
publication as required by law.
