Updates & Action Items:
Ann: The field trip to visit community centers lasted 14.5 hours, with several seniors in attendance who shared their thoughts. George Baker, Eileen O’Neil, Lynn Smith, and Ann attended
this trip and reflected on their experiences.
The spacious entrance was very welcoming and included a shared space and coffee area.
The kitchen was extremely large, fully equipped, and well stocked, but it may be larger than needed for the WestU population.
The large windows provided ample lighting but also let in "too much sun." May lead to higher energy usage.
There was outdoor seating available.
Presentation by PGAL architects Justine Markowski & Jeff Gerber
Jeff Gerber discussed the survey results for the new facility. Attendees of the city meeting responded at a rate of 98%.
Justine Markowski presented data on the survey, including requests for strategy games and social events like Magic: The Gathering.
Jeff highlighted data on services requested for the library and community center.
Eileen O’Neil noted the duplication of services between the library and the community center.
Ann pointed out the lack of art space in the current building.
Diana Ayers mentioned the data doesn’t include regular attendees.
Kay inquired about space for gymnasiums in the 20-22,000 sq ft facility.
Jennifer Sickman emphasized the need for a multigenerational facility.
On-going project Updates—managing through the summer
Ann urged everyone to read about community updates in City Currents.
Soraya – discussed sending in more recipes for the cookbook, and the deadline is July 4, 2024. Please send family pictures/important West U memories to Soraya.
