DECLARATION OF DISASTER
WHEREAS, on this 7th day of July, 2024, it has been determined that there is an
imminent threat of damage, injury, and possible loss of life and!or property within the City of
West University Place, Texas, resulting from flooding and winds associated with Hurricane
Beryl, and
WHEREAS, the Mayor of the City of West University Place, Texas has determined that
extraordinary measures must be taken to alleviate the suffering of people and to protect or
rehabilitate property; now, therefore,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR OF THE CITY OF WEST UNIVERSITY PLACE,
TEXAS
Section 1. That a local state of disaster is hereby declared in the City of West
University Place, Texas pursuant to §418.108(a) of the Texas Government Code.
Section 2. Pursuant to §418.108(b) of the Texas Government Code, this declaration
of local disaster shall continue for a period of not more than seven (7) days from the date of this
declaration, unless continued or renewed by the City Council of the West University Place,
Texas.
Section 3. Pursuant to §418.108(c) of the Texas Government Code, this declaration
of a local state of disaster shall be given prompt and general publicity and shall be filed promptly
with the City Secretary.
Section 4. Pursuant to §418.108(d) of the Texas Government Code, this declaration
of a local disaster activates the City of West University Place Emergency Management Plan.
Section 5. This proclamation shall take effect immediately from and after its
issuance.
