ZONING & PLANNING BOARD

The Zoning R- Planning Board co:,ver_ed in regular session at the City Hall,
7:30 P.'i. Thursday, June 15, 1950, ~n~ith the f ollatvinr members present:
PJir. G. C. King, presiding; l~iessrs. A11en and Maley. ~,~r. Franklin Janes
was absent.
Dr. Y7urphy A~, Sims, I~~.D., appeared before the Board advisinf~ that he had
purchased the property at 3932 Rus?.~in, Lot 35, Block 1, Cunningham Terrace
Addition and requested permission to use one room of this residence as an
aux ill iary office. Dr. Sims ex;lained to the Board that he is an ortho-
pedic surgeon at Ellington Field; his -lours bein~* from 7::30 A.T1. to 12:30
P.~,~. and most of his private work is done in the local hospitals.
r,~otion by i1:C. Allen, seconded by I~ir. Maley that Dr. Sims' request as con-
tained in~,his letter of June 7, 1950, for perriiission to maintain an aux-
iliary office for a limited practice at his home at 3932 Ruskin be recom-
mended for a~.~proval subject to periodic inspections by the Building In-
spector to see that there is no violation of the Zoning Ordinance.

~~ and l:~irs. O'Brien Stevens, owners of Lot 6, Block 10, Virginia Court,
expressed their desire to erect a building an this lot to be used as a
dance studio in connection with their living quarters. The Board advised
A.~r, and Prs. Stevens that a study was being made of the fringed terri-
tory by a committee appointed by the City Council and they did not think
it advisable far the Board to take action on their request at this time.
dir. H. '~. Ra_y~orn, advised the Baard that he proposed construction of an
office building at the I~lorthwest corner of Kirb.v Drive and Nottingham
Street on Lots 19, 20 and 21 Evanston Addition and requested that the
Board recommend an amendment to the Zoning Ordinance to provide for a 10'
setback on Kirby Drive for this building .and a setback of 12' for a dis-
tance of ;3' west on Nottingham from the grope.:°ty line at Kirby as sho~rrn
on the s'cetch submitted. It was brought nut that the lots are dedicated
to face Nottingham rather than Kirby Drive, and as this is not a retail
business building there is no need for additional parking space on ifirby
Drive.
%;~otion by Ns. Allen, seconded by iti'r. I~aley that the Board recommend to
the City Council that a hearing be called for the purpose of considering
an amendment to the Zoning Ordinance to provide for a 10 Ft. set back on
Kirby Drive for the proposed office building to be constructed on Lots
19, 20 and al and a 12 Ft. set back on Nottingham for a distance of 5d Ft.
from the u~dest property line of Kirby Drive; the remaining portion of the
building to comoly with the present setback requirements as shown on the
sketch submitted.

The Board was advised that ~vlr. H. J. Chavanne had submitted his resignation
tc the City Council as a member of the Zoning Board as he is moving out of
the City of Kest University Place. The Board expressed .their regrets and
their appreciation for the faithfulness and cooperation of P~~~x'. Chavanne
while serving with this group.
'Vith no further business to cone bef ore the Board at this time, the meeting
