MAY 18, 1950
The Zoning and Planning Board convened in regular session at the City Hall
7:30 P.M. May 18, 1950, with the following members present: Mr. 0. C. King,
presiding; Messrs. Allen, Jones and Maley. Mr. Chavanne was absent.
A committee from the :Test University Place Methodist Church composed of
Messrs. R. J. Eubanks., Building Committee; Karl 0. Bayer, Minister; and
J. D. Ehman, Architectural Committee, appeared before the Board and advised
they contemplated purchase of Lots lOB, 6A and 6B, Block 25, 'iuest University
Place 1st ,Addition and that the Houston Natural Gas Corporation had deeded
lot 10-A to the Church. It was their request that the Zoning Ordinance be
amended to permit use of the aforementioned lots for church purposes.
Motion by Mr.-Allen, seconded by Mr. Jones that an investigation be made
of the present status of Lot 6A and 6B, Block 25, West University Place
lst Addition and if it is found that these lots are zoned for residential
use the Board recommends that Ordinance No. 111 be amended to permit use
of said lots for church purposes.

Voting No : None
Motion by Mr, Allen, seconded by Mr. Jones that Zoning Ordinance No. 111,
be amended to permit usv of Lots l0A and 10B, Block 25, West University
Place lst Addition by the West University P:Lace Methodist Church for e-
rection of a church building or for use as a parking lot; if same is used
as a parking lot, guard rails and other safety measures should be installed
along the Poor Farm Ditch in aceordan'ce with specifications prepared by
the City Engineer.

Mr. V. E. Sr;.ith, bb3lt Vanderbilt, appeared bef ore the Board protesting
action taken on May 1, 19 O, by the Loning Board and City Cauncil reference
his request for permission to complete erection of a 5b0 Sq. Ft. structure
to be used as a play room by his three children. This request was denied
by both the Zoning Board and City Cc;uncil for reason that a structure of
this .size and the set-back li~-:e was in violation of the Zoning Ordinance,
~Sr. Smith 'was referred to the Board of Adjustment and Appeals for further
consideration,
Mr. J. L. Graham, os~aner of Lots !~ and 5, Block l~1, ~aVest University Place
1st Addition requested permission to erect a one-story garage building
in connection with erection of a home on Lot !~ and 5A, to include space
for two cars and a servant quarters with no kitchen facilities and to
contain an area less than 250 Sq. Ft.
Motion by Mr. Maley, seconded by bir. Allen that the request of itdrr. J. L.
Graham to construct a garage in connection with a home to be built on

Lot !~ and 5; garage building to be !~5' 8" wide and 2}~' deep; space for two
cars occupying 28' and the additional 17'8" x lit' to be used as a servan t
quarters without kitchen facilities in accordance with plans submitted, be
approved subject to execution of usual affidavit that the building will
not be used for commercial purposes.
