ZONING & PLANNING BOARD
Fr~RUARY 16, 1950
The Zoning & Planning Board convened in regular session at the City Hall
on Thursday February 16, 1950, ?t30 P.M. with the following members present:
Mr. O. C. King, presiding; Messrs. Duncan P. Allen, H. J. Chavanne, Franklin
C. Jones and Roy Maley.
Mr. H. J. Corolla, 4259 Sunset, appeared bef ore the Board requesting per-
mission to erect an tS x 19~ extension to his existing one-story garage
building to be used as a play room and storage room.
Motion by Mr. Chavanne, seconded by Mr. Maley, that Mr. Corollas request
for permission to erect an 8 x 19~ extension to his existing garage to be
used as a play room and storage room be recommended for approval subject
to execution of usual affidavit stating that the structure will not be
used for commercial purposes.

Voting No : Done
Miss Pauline M. Calhoun, owner of Lot 6, Block 2, College Court Addition,
requested permission from the Board to erect a home on this lot located
at the corner of Richmond Road and Simmons Street with the entrance
fronting east on Simmons Street instead of fronting south on Richmond Road.
Motion by Mr. Allen, seconded by Mr. Chavanne that the request of Miss
Calhoun be recommended for approval in accordance-with sketch submitted.
Voting Aye: All
Voting No : None
In compliance with action of .the Board on January 19, 1950, in connection
with a request from Dr. F. M. Hughes, for permission to establish an office
in his home at O University Bou evard, a written opinion on Paragraph
!~, Section 3, of Zoning Ordinance No. 111 was submitted from City Attorney
T. M. Ryan:" It was the opinion of the City Attorney that use of a home as
a primary office and consultation place without maintaining an office else-
where constitutes the carrying on of a business or profession within the
house itself which is a violation of the Ordinance.
Motion by Mr. Allen, seconded by Mr. Chavanne that the request. of Dr. Hughes
f or permission to establish an office in his home at 360l~ University Bau1e-
vard be denied in-view of the opinion submitted by City Attorney T. M.
Ryan.

Voting No None
The Board discussed various complaints which had been submitted with ref-
erence to property at the northeast corner of Swarthmore and hest Foint
Street. It was reported that the property was being occupied by several

families and was in an insanitary and unsightly condition. The Board recom-
mended that the City Council take action to have an investigation made of
the property and necessary corrections made.
With no further business to come before the Board at this time, the meeting
was adjourned.
