HomeMy WebLinkAbout10081964 ZPC Minutes~~~` REGULAR MEETING OF ZONING AND PLANNING COMMISSION OCTOBER 8, 196~- The Zoning and Planning Commission convened in regular session on Thursday, October 8, 196-, 7:30 p.m., with the following members present: .Chairman David Hannah, presiding; Members Bricker, Goff, Hilton and Lott. Mrs. Wilma Whitaker, 6519 Buffalo Speedway, appeared before the Commission in behalf of her request for subdivision of Lot 9, Block 11, West Univer- sity Place First Addy ion_ being a lot 100 X 200', into two lots each 50 X 200' to front on Buffalo Speedway. She stated that the garage shown on the plot plan is no longer there; it has been removed. There would there- fore, be no encroachments-into the side setback requirements. Motion by Mr. Lott, seconded by Mr. Hilton, that the Zoning and Planning Commission recommend to :the City Commission that Lot 9, Block 11, West University Place First Addition, be subdivided into two lots, each 50 X 200' to front on Buffalo Speedway, as requested by the owner, Mrs. C. W. Whitaker. Voting Aye: All Voting No: None Mr. D. J. Bratton appeared before the Commission in behalf°'of the request of Mrs. Julia Bott for permission to subdivide Lot Block 28 West Universit P1 c t ddition, into two lots each 5 x 15o to front on Westchester. Mr. Bratton explained to the Comms.- sion that Mrs. Bottler understands that the lot cannot be subdivided until the existing dwelling is removed, or moved onto one of the 50' portions of the lot in order to have no part of the dwelling extending into the side setback requirements. He stated that at this time, Mrs. Bottler merely wanted to know whether the lot could be subdivided, if the dwelling is moved. The Commission advised Mr. Bratton that they could take no official action until the setback requirements are satisfied, but that they felt there would be no problem in having the lot subdivided if this were dune. They told Mr. Bratton that they would submit this opinion to the City Attorney to see if it were correct. Mr. J. F. Whittington, of Soconv Mobil Oil Company, appeared before the Commission in behalf of their request for rezoning of Lo~__~~., Rl n~k 2, Bissonnet Place, to permit use as a service station. He stated that this property is on the west side of Weslayan and is approximately 11,000 square feet in area. After discussion the following action was taken: Motion by Mr. Goff, seconded by Mr. Lott, that the Zoning and Planning Commission recommend to the City Commission that the request of Socony Mobi 1 Oil Company for rezoning of Lots 5 and 6, Block 2, Bissonnet Place, to permit use as a service station site, be denied inasmuch as this would be considered. spot zoning, and might prejudice the position of the city in future requests similar to this one. ~~ 1 ~: Voting Aye: All Voting No: None The Commission again considered the formulation of re~ula.tions in con- nection with construction of chL~;~ches in the City of West University Place. Each of the. members gave their ideas on the various points which were set out at the previous meeting, as being. the most impar- tant: The Commission feels that after these ideas are combined, they .will be able to Make their final report to the City Commission at their November meeting. ` With no further business to come before the Co ssion at this tip, upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, t was adjourned.
