sPE~zAL r~rzNG a~ T~ ZONZ~~ AND PLANNING BOARD
.:..:SEPTEMBER 29, 1962
The Zoning and Planning Board met in special session on Saturday,
September 29, 1962, with the following members present: Mr. p. P. Gill,
Acting Chairman; Messrs. Fitzgerald and Vest. Messrs. Hannah, Lott and Snyder
were absent.
Mr. Gill explained to members of the Board that this meeting had been called to
further consider the request submitted by the Continental 0il Company for a var-
iance in setback requirements for a proposed service station at the corner of
Bissonnet and Kirby Drive which had been referred back to the Board by the City Com-
mission after it was determined that the "pump islands" and canopies would not meet
the 30 ft. setback requirement.
A letter and plat signed by Mr. James ~. Mathis, representing the Continental Qil
Company, indicated the construction of a pump island on the Kirby Drive side of
the proposed service station would project five feet into the 30 ft. setback and the
canopy would have an overhead projection of 13 feet in the 30 ft. setback.
After considering the request for a variance of Zoning Ordinance No. 111 to permit
erection of these structures within-the 30 ft. setback requirement, and reviewing
the plans submitted, it was the opinion of-the Board that the proposed structure
had been well designed for maximum safety and east of ingress and egress, and
the following action was taken:
Motion by Mr. Vest, seconded by Mr. Fitzgerald that the Zoning Board recommend
that Zoning Ordinance No. 111 be amended to permit erection of a service sta-
tion at the corner of Bissonnet and Kirby Drive with the proposed pump island
to project 5 ft. into the 30 ft. setback and the canopy to have an overhead.
projection of 13 feet into the 30 ft. setback. on Kirby Drive, and the canopy on
Bissonnet to project 8 ft. into the 30 ft. setback.
Voting Aye: All No: None
With no further business to come before the Board at this time, upon motion
duly made, seconded and carried, the meeting was adjourned.
