HomeMy WebLinkAbout10111956 ZPC Minutes~4 MIlW'I!ES OF ZONING & PLANNING BOARD ME:ETIlUG OCTOBER 11, 1956 The Zoning & Planning Board convened in regular session at the Gity Hall on Thursday, October 11, 1956, 7;30 P.M. with the following members presents Mr. M. C. Halbert, presiding; Messrs. A. G. Davis, David Hannah, Robert Madeley and- Charles Wilson. Mr. H. M. Ho kips 5812 Lake Street, requested permission to en~clo_se an own front porch which extends feet into the front setback requirement. Mr. Hopkins explained 'die is remodeling his house and desired to enclose the porch in order to make an entrance hall to protect the, living room fram rain and dampness during bad weather, and to improve the looks of the front of his house. No action was taken at this time since ~e Board members expressed a desire to see the premises and adjacent residences personally. Messrs. Tom Wheat Sam Jett and Dr. Charles H. McClendon appeared before the Board requesting permission to use Bloe 2 Cunni Terrace, presently zoned for res- idential use, for parkinr area in connec on wz a proposed office type building on Lots 5 & 6, Block ,Cunningham Terrace, which is in a commercial zone. Mr. Benton G. Smith, x+003 Riley Street, presented a petition signed by ~+8 property owners and citizens of West University who have purchased homes in and near the vicinity. of .Block 2,_Cunningham Terrace, asking that the zoning ordinance not be ~..~~` amended or changed. Mr_,_, Smi.th stated that he objected to the use of Block 2 as a parking area as he did not want to live across. the street from a "parking lot". Mrs. Wheeler 3816 Ruskin stated that she objected to Block 2 being used as a par ing area because i would set a precedent for the vacant area across Stella Link which is owned by Mr. H. R. Houck. Dr. McClendon explained in answer to questions by several persons present, that Mr. Houck was not connected with this proposed project in any manner whatsoever. Various others, of the residents present, voiced objections to the property being used for parking purposes. After hearing all persons present who wished to be heard on the request, the. Board further considered the matter and took the following action; Motion by Mr. Madeley, seconded by Mr. Wilson that the Board recommend to the City Commission that the request of Messrs. Tom Wheat, Sam Jett, Zack Graham and Dr. Charles McClendon, for permission to use Block 2, Cunningham Terrace for a parking area in connection with a proposed office building on adjoining property be denied, Voting Aye; All No; None Mr. E. R. Davis 3131 Robinhood requested permission to install a commode and wash bow_ in the proposed washroom section of his garaged Mr. Davis explaine that e 41, washroom section of the garage would contain only an automatic washer and dryer, plus a storage closet, and that the commode and wash bowl would be for use of servant and yard workers. Tt was also explained to the Board that the addition of the washroom itself to the .garage would not in any way add to its potential use as living quarters. Motion by Mr. Wilson, seconded by I++~:'. A. G. Davis, that the request of Mr. E. R. Davis, 3131 Robinhood, for permission to install a commode and wash bowl in a proposed washroom be approved. Voting Aye: All No: None Mrs. R. C. Meyer, 3223 Sunset, requested the Board to recam~mend approval far a proposed carport at the south side of their existing .garage which would extend to the rear property 1 ne o t~ie~`1~1~o a`c'~~o'n was`~a'k`en on the request of Mrs. Meyer, as Board members desired to look at the property in person.
