The Zoning and Planning Commission of the City of West University Place convened
in recessed session at the City Hall, Wednesday, May 9, 1973, 7100 p.m. with the
following members presents Chairman Hines, presiding; Members Bartholomew,
Dahlia, Lipscomb and Weatherby.
The following letter was presented to the Commission for their ixiformationz
eMr. E. Gene Hanes, Chairman
Zoning and Planning Commission
City of West University Place
37118 Rice Boulevard
Houston, Texas 77005
Dear Mr. Hines:
In your letter of May 2, 1973, you requested a written opinion. in
regard to the contemplated use of Lot 9, Block 18, Collegeview lst
Addition, for a parking lot by the city. You specifically requested.
that you be advised as to whether any action would be necessary on
the part of the Zoning and Planning Commission..
It is my opinion that no action would be required by the Zoning and
Planning Commission in view of Section !~ of .the. Zoning Ordinance..
Section lt, permits, in single family dwelling districts, water supply
reservoirs; filter beds, artesian wells, water pumping plants; public
recreation buildings, public museums; municipal buildings; and fire.
stations. It would appear that the use of property for municipal
buildings and other permitted use would carry with it the right to
provide off-street parking, assuming that such parking lot was used
as an integral part of the other public improvements.
If anything further is needed in regard to this matter, please so
advise me.
Xours very truly,
/s/ Charles F. Cockrell
City Attorney
cc: Mayor Don Harris
City Manager Whitt Johnson"
