HomeMy WebLinkAbout10121967 ZPC Minutes~9 REGULAR MEETING OF ZONING AND PLANNING COMMISSION OCTOBER 12, 1967 The Zoning and Planning Commission of the City of West University Place convened. in regular session at the City Hall on Thursday, October 12, 1967,.7:30 p.m., with the following members present: Chairman Hannah, presiding; Members Bricker, Hilton, Hines and Lott. Rev. Thomas Skaff, Priest for St. George Orthodox Church located at Bissonnet ~,nd Mercer, appeared before the Commission in behalf of his letter of request for per- mission to open:,and operate a day nursery at this church. He advised the Commission ~. that the fire insepctor, sanitary engineer and building inspector had inspected the N premises and found them in satisfactory condition for such operation. He stated.- CD that this would be an all-day school, primarily for. children of working mothers, '~ and that they planned to have from 50 to 70 children in the school. He stated V that he would be the. director of the .school .and that the school would be a strictly private school and totally under the aspces of the church. He stated that all pro- fit would be returned to the church budget for upkeep and operation. of the school. After considerable discussion, it was the concensus of the Commnission that the re- quest, if granted, would constitute no violation of the city's zoning laws, pro- vided the operation of the school remain entirely in the hands: of the church. It was decided that an opinion should be obtained from the City Attorney concerning any technicalities. Motion by Mr. Hilton, seconded by Mr. Lott that Chairman Hannah be authorized to write a letter to the City Attorney requesting his opnion and requesting that he draft a letter to the applicant setting forth the conditions under which the re- quest may be granted. It was also requested that the City Attorney advise as to whether the Zoning and Planning Commission or the City Commission would have the final decision in this matter.
