HomeMy WebLinkAbout01101963 ZPC Minutes:~ REGULAR MEETING OF ZONING AND PLANNING BOARD JANUARY 10, 1963 The Zoning and Planning Board convened in regular session at the City Hall, 7:30 P.M., Thursday, January 10, 1963, with the following members present; Chairman Gill, presiding; Members Haralson, Hilton, Jones, Lott and Snyder. Mr. Charles D. Watson, 6336 Rutgers, asked permission to build an 82 x 18 ft. greenhouse behind his existing garage stating that such structure would be used in connection with his wife's hobby and not for commercial purposes. A sketch submitted indicated that the structure would be in compliance with set- back requirements and according to,Mr. Watson's statement, it would be constructed with wood studding, glass. windows with steel frames, and a fiber glass roof. Motion by Mr. Jones, seconded by Mr. Haralson, that the Board recommend to the City Commission that Mr. Watson's request to construct. an 82 x 18 ft. greenhouse behind his existing garage be approved subject to his executing the usual affidavit that the structure will not be used for commercial pur- poses. Voting Aye: All No; None. Mr. W. N• McCollum, owner of the W2 of Lots 1 and 2, Block 20, West Univer- sity Place First Addition, appeared before the Board presenting a drawing of the wo 1o s which indicated an existing residence located approximately in the center of the W2 of Lots 1 and 2. Mr. McCollum stated that it was his desire to move the existing_house ontci the N 572, ft, portion of the W2 of Lot 2. Motion by M,r. Haralson, seconded by Mr. Jones, that permission be granted Mr. McCollum to move the existing house on the W2 of Lots 1 and 2, Block 20, West University Place First Addition, onto. the N 572 ft. portion of the W2 of Lot 2 subject to compliance with setback requirements. Voting Aye: .All No; None. Messrs. W. W. Bowman and M. E. Peters, representing the West University Methodist Chinch, verbally stated to the Board that the church was using proper y a ~acent to the Poor Farm Ditch, including Lot 11A, Block 25, West University Place First Addition, for parking purposes in accordance -~. with approval granted in 1958 by the City Commission after a Public Hear- ing was held and Ordinance No. 11I amended. Mr. Bowman stated it was the desire of the church to provide an exit, to be used during a two hour period on Sunday mornings, through the driveway on Lot ~+A, onto Mercer Street. Mr. Peters explained that there would be a gate installed on the fence at ;the rear of Lot 4A which would be kept locked at ,all times with the exception of the two hour period on Sunday mornings at which time there would be a max- imum of only 30 automobiles to use this proposed exit. The Board was advised that the West University Methodist Church owns Lot ~+A and the existing resi- dence is used as a church parsonage for the Assistant Pastor. After considering the matter the Board could find no objection as far as the Zoning Ordinance is concerned and took the following action; 1 ~ -4 Motion by Mr. Lott, seconded by Mr. Haralson, that the Board recommend approval for the West University Methodist Church to provide an exit through Lot 4A.onto Mercer Street, to be used during a two hour period on Sunday mornings, provided there is no objection in the opinion of the City Attorney. Voting Aye: All No; None.
