The General Appeals Board convened in regular session in the Municipal Building, 3800 University Boulevard, in the City of West University Place, on Monday, June 11, 1990, with the following members present: Philip C. Lewis, John M. Farrell, Nicholas J. Aschliman and Sharon Mathews. Also present was John Dennis, Code Compliance Officer. COMMENTS OF CONCERNED RESIDENTS: Mr. Lewis invited residents to speak w o had matters they wished to bring to the attention of the General Appeals Board. There were none present who wished to speak. CONSIDERATION OF FENCE AT 3806 SWARTHMORE: James M, and Lisa H. Wheeler, 3806 Swarthmore, request a variance to erect a two foot extension to the fence surrounding the property to make the fence eight feet in height. The fence is five feet instead of six feet from part of the neighbor's house. Application, letter, plot of the property, sketch of the property and photographs were provided for the Board's review. A short section, about 20 feet, parallels the house in which five feet would not be permitted and also a section, about 23 feet, further back in which an eight foot fence would not be permitted. The variance is being requested because of the hardship of a dog next door that is of great concern. After general discussion of possible options, motion was made by Sharon Mathews, seconded by John Farrell, that the request for a variance to the fence ordinance in respect to granting a five foot set back as opposed to a six foot set back in building an eight foot fence be denied. Voting Aye: Philip Lewis, John Farrell, Sharon Mathews, Nicholas Aschliman Voting No: None Absent: None ~ Mr. Lewis suggested that Wayne Perry, Chief Building Inspector, explain to Mr. and Mrs. Wheeler that there are some solutions to getting an eight foot fence on the rear most and even the center most sections of the fence. All but the last portion toward the front street could be erected eight feet without violating the ordinance. w 4.. ~ n ~J General Appeals Board, Monday, June 11, 1990 General A peals Board Meetin Minutes: Motion was made by John Farre , seconded y S aron Mat ews, that the minutes of the General Appeals Board be approved: a) Regular Session, May 14, 1990 Voting Aye: Philip Lewis, John Farrell, Sharon Mathews, Nicholas Aschliman Voting No: None Absent: None Adjournment: There being no further business to come before the Board at this time, a motion was made by John Farrell, seconded by Sharon Mathews, that the meeting be adjourned at 7:00 p.m. Voting Aye: Philip Lewis, John Farrell, Sharon Mathews, Nicholas Aschliman Voting No: None Absent: None . ~ 2
