Meeting:
1. Handout of the conclusions page of Data Analysis study by Candace Tenbrink, Karen
Kenny and George Hildebrandt done last year. 2018-2019 data used to Covid. Will look
to update this coming year.
2. Ideas for improving the way the Board functions to promote increased awareness and
involvement by each board member. Shannon Carroll had suggested at our June
meeting that we look at possible ways to improve. Precise plan will be up to the ‘new
board’ when it is selected. General idea would be to have specific Bd. Members
volunteer to ‘cover’ specific activities or programs and report back. It could be similar to
How we hear back from GNT and APAC presently. Discussion of ideas.
3. Ann asked Dorothy Zink to share some ideas she had regarding email reminders being
sent to supplement Hi Neighbor publication. Reminder of Sept 19 Food Waste
presentation.
4. Gloria commented that she shut down when she felt another board member had
‘attacked’ her. She didn’t know how or what to participate in.
5. Report backs:
APAC-- notes from meeting had been sent to all Bd. Members
GNT—Mardi Turner noted 4th of July visits, Sept card signing for the fall card and
speaker on Fall Risks
Parks--Susan White
a. Edloe Pathway partially open, challenges with heat
b. Weir Park funds requested for construction at the Parks Bd. Meeting, on to Council
c. Staffing issues at Rec Center, Four full time people are covering extra hours which is
not sustainable. Last week 38 hours, next weeks 44 hours, and 57 hours. Early shifts
very challenging, staff has long commutes. Early hours and late weekend hours will
be reduced.
d. Colonial park deck being repaired with Fun Run proceeds.
e. No change in membership fees
f. 110% Consulting will continue into 2024, so we will have easy access to data
6. Shannon Carroll, reported on Council matters
a. Board interviews on-going
b. She & others enjoy Edloe Pathway on walks to elementary school
c. Eastside drainage project is moving forward
d. City budget is in the works, safety & police staffing a priority
e. Poor Farm Ditch south of University is making progress, large amount of funding has
been procured. Harris County Flood Control owns the ditch. There is a need for inter
local agreement with WU & SSPL
Meeting adjourned 3:10 pm
