SPECIAL MEETING OF ZONING BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT
SEPTEMBER 30; 1965
The Zoning Board of Adjustment for the City of West University Place convened
in special session at the City Hall Council Chambers on Thursday, September 30,
1965, 7:30 p.m., with the following members present: Chairman Snyder, pre-
siding; Member L. G. Livermore. Alternate members Reinhart and Adam were
designated by Mayor Dupree Holman to sit as acting members of the Board at
this meeting, as it was determined a quorum would not be available otherwise.
Chairman Snyder announced that the Board would at this time hold the Public
Hearing which was called for this date to consider a variance of setback
requirements on property located on the corner of Bissonnet and Rutgers,
owned by St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, as requested on Application No.
65-9 of the Zoning Board of Adjustment.
Chairman Snyder announced that for the record, notice was mailed to each
property owner within 200 feet of the property involved on September 14,
1965 and that notice was published in the regular section of the Houston
Chronicle on September 16,-1965.
Mr. J. L. Howell, Chairman of the Building Committee for St. Andrew's Pres-
byterian Church, stated that the church desires permission to construct a
building fronting Bissonnet, to align with the existing church building on
the adjoining property at the corner of Bissonnet and Buffalo Speedway, to
be used as classrooms and fellowship hall for the church, in accordance
with plans submitted.
Mr. D. Kuritza appeared before the Board in behalf of his mother, who owns
the property located at 3303 Bissonnet. Mr. Kuritza stated that they had
no objections to the property being used for church purposes or to the
proposed building by the church, but appeared before the Board for the
purpose of determining procedure to be followed in regard to having pro-
perty located on the perimeter of the city zoned for commercial purposes.
Chairman Snyder advised Mr. Kuritza that his request should be presented
to the Zoning and Planning Commission for action. Mr. Kuritza left the
meeting at this time.
The following action was taken by the Zoning Board of Adjustment in connec-
tion with the request of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, after discussion
of the evidence submitted.:
Motion by Mr. Reinhart, seconded by Mr. Adam, that the application of St.
Andrew's Presbyterian Church, application number 65-9, for a variance
of setback requirements to allow a setback of 17'3" on the front building
line of a proposed building at the corner of Bissonnet and Rutgers to be
used for church purposes and to front on Bissonnet Street, be granted,
and that the decision of the Building Inspector be reversed.

With no further business to come before the Board at this time, upon motion
duly made, seconded and carried, the<meeting was adjourned.
