Attendance — Diane Ayers, Candyce Beneke, George Hildebrandt, Toby Brooks, Ann Crowley, Karen Kenny, Joan Johnson, Susan White, Susan Davis, Shannon Caroll, Teresa George-Hung, Selby Clark, Gloria Nino-Monacelli, and Candace Tenbrink a. Absent: George Baker (Subbed with Mary Baker), Allan Elkowitz, Tom Brombacher,Mardi Turner 3. Guest: John Barnes, Carlos De La Torre, Mary Beth Gilbert, Dick Yehle 4. Approval of previous minutes — George Hidebrandt and seconded by Karen Kenny a. One mistake in spelling 5. Presentation by Farrell Buller: Financial sustainability strategy and operational analysis for public parks and Recreation a. Cost recovery goals b. Personalized services provide 1.1 million i. Open access is not meant to recover cost (eg. Park) —> community investment c. Data looks at what programs are successful and which ones are not. d. Data looks at ways to save money — eg: Start the Rec Center daily at 5:30 am saving $20,000 per year. e. Looking into aging in place and the cost effectiveness of how much it would cost to give seniors over 65 free access to Rec Centers. f. Make sure staff can adjust to the changing demands of the city government in a financially efficient manner. 6. Guest: Carlos De La Torre — Better goodie bags recommendations for Seniors 7. City Manager of West U — Dave Beach a. Update: What’s taking place with the facilities master plans. b. If we go into construction — 12-14 months. c. Early 2023 and building will not be done until 2024 d. Only public works building has been approved so far. e. Recommendation by Seniors: Common meeting space is important for multigenerational communities 8. Susan — Parks and Rec Updates: a. Updates on Weir Park renovation i. George H is the representative for this board. ii. Layout of the park will be relatively the same iii. Major change is proposing an area to play cornhole and fitness area. iv. Expand to the handicap space to increase green space b. Colonial park —deck has been completed, and need to be stained and painted. c. Colonial park is now open 9. Candyce Beneke: a. Senior skill list b. Focus on getting more help with what is already in place c. Get some more handy men d. Electric, plumbing, lawn service and computer help need so looking for help in these areas i. Do not have to be residents (Toby) e. Safety and quality of life for seniors — that should have been our focus 10. Candace TenBrink — moving out of WestU and I won’t be on the board anymore. Would like to wish everyone and the board well, and has enjoyed her time on the board. Meeting adjourned at 3:10 pm — First Candace TenBrink, second Karen Kenny
