HOUSTON, TEXAS 77005 The Building and Standards Commission convened in the Municipal Building, 3800 University Boulevard, in the City of West University Place, on June 4, 1992, for a Regular Session with the following members present: Nicholas Aschliman, Chairman, Drew McManigle, Craig DuCote, Carolyn Hodgins and Dale Reid. Present from the City were Ed Beasley, Building Official and 5usan Thorn, Building Secretary. HEARING OF RESIDENTS: None Present DISCUSSION OF CHAPTER SIX: Ed Beasley, Building Official presented a list of proposed changes to Chapter Six, Building, Mechanical and Housing Codes. A copy of these changes will be included with these minutes. He explained that the first item to be deleted from Chapter will be the • requirement for Workers Compensation Insurance. The second item is Section 6-3 (i) (2) which will be amended as discussed in previous BSC meetings. The third item is Section 6-22 which covers term of permits which would increase the term of a residential and commercial (new construction) permit to 1 year following the day of issuance. The fourth item is Section 6-51. Mr. Beasley recommends adoption of the Standard Building Code, 1991 edition of the Southern Building Code. The fifth item is Section 6-52 regarding foundations. Some of the new requirements included are for all foundations for new construction, and foundation repairs involving the installation of piers to be designed and inspected by a registered professional engineer and that a soils report would not be required for single story accessory structures containing less than four hundred fifty square feet of gross floor area. The Mechanical Code and Housing Codes for 1991 are to be adopted with standard deletions. The Housing Code has rewording for better understanding. It is nearly identical to the 1988 Code. The fence ordinance in Chapter Six will be amended to allow the • maximum fence height to be 8 feet when there is written consent of both property owners of properties adjoining the fence. Mr. Beasley explained that it will take the City Council after review by the City Attorney thirty to sixty days to approve these ~• _ ^r~ + changes. Voting No: None The next Building and Standards Commission meeting on Wednesday, July 8, 1992 due to the City's Holiday on July 3rd in observance of Independence Day.
