Citizen Comments: Dick Yehle spoke regarding ideas for the new community building. He noted
we should take lessons from history when WU built the Rec Center. We should focus on what is
unique to the community building and senior services: Parking, Storage, Offices for staff and
replacing the Big meeting room.
1.Report on 110% project—Susan White—presentation slides will be shared with the board.
In summary, there were 3 models—Parks Board, Staff & Senior Board A hybrid model was
chosen. Staff is now working to gather essential data in preparation for bringing the
presentation to Council.
2. Susan White-Monthly report –Edloe Pathway is moving forward. Susan met with the City of
Houston, Harris county Flood Control people. They will remove the trees and chain link fence
on the Edloe St. side of the ditch. A temporary silt fence will be installed as work is being done.
A black metal fence will be installed when pathway is finished. Pathway will be made of a
rubber material.
Weir Park project is going along. It is a complex project due to concerns about elevation and
structural soundness. The Parks Board is reviewing concepts, in light of $34K to do engineering
analysis. Ideas to expand areas at entrance and Nottingham side may impact grade etc and not
be worth it for the # of square feet added.
3. APAC-Karen sent in report
4. Good Neighbor Team- Mardi Turner—Valentines sent out. Adult Protective services will be
on next month
5. Sr. Services- Toby Brooks—Chili luncheon very successful 65 people attended. It was Ed
Heathcott’s last meal as head chef. He is moving. Lynn Smith will be taking over that role.
Minute Maid Park Trip was well attended
Pickle Ball has a new beginner class—Toby held a basics class. The instructor who does lessons
will be there this summer.
6. Field Trip to Mount Belvieu Senior Center-Feb 9th Toby Brooks drove—George Baker, George
Hildebrandt, Diana Ayers and Ann Crowley attended.
Group will get together to clarify take aways prior to next board meeting.
Ann and George B each made visits to Alief Community Center. It has a library on the 2nd floor
of the facility. Of special interest is the TechLink center which is part of the Houston Public
Library.
Our library is part of the Harris County system. Dick Yehle mentioned they have a new facility in
Seabrook.
Ann encouraged everyone to visit facilities so when we come together at our March meeting
we can work on clarifying our thinking and prioritizing our goals for the new community center.
We will use a ranking process much like we did with the 110% project.
Meeting adjourned at 2:55 pm
