HomeMy WebLinkAboutJanuary112023West University Place SENIORS BOARD MEETING January 11, 2023 Presiding: Ann Crowley (Chair) The meeting was called to order at 2:05 pm Roll Call: Present: Tom Brombacher, George Baker, Candace Beneke, Toby Brooks, Teresa George, Mardi Diane, Susan White, Diane Ayers, Joan, Shannon Carroll, Selby Clark Absent: Gloria Nino Monacelli, George Hildebrandt, Allan Elkowitz, Candace Tenbrink, Karen Kenny Guest: Jennifer Sickman, John Barnes, Alida Drews, Dick Yehle, Dorothy Zink Actions Items: 1. Citizen Commentary: a. Alida: Senior exemptions to increase. Dog park has been requested but no info. Also, no free Wi-Fi for seniors. Additionally, she does not think that WestU police are protecting seniors enough. 2. 110% consultant will be giving a presentation. a. Farrell Buler — from 110% b. How to public entities manage and spend the money for parks & rec c. Senior activity ranking importance of community vs. individual activities d. Alief New Senior Center — Karen Kenny mentioned this previously. We would like to a group to go to Mount Bellview as well. 3. City Council (Shannon Carroll): a. Council updates: Rafino hills property sold to the city of Houston. b. Mayor Sample approached the city of Houston and was able to sell it. City of WestU received 10 million dollars. c. Voted for feasibility study — north part of poor farm ditch. d. Buffalo speedway reopening ceremony is tomorrow at Duke e. 87% percent would refer a friend to WestU. 4. Parks & Rec (Susan White): a. Council meeting Monday night —Edloe project is approved. Dave will present in the next meeting with the bidder. Looking at a February start time. Completion by late may early June b. Weir Park —Friends of the park boards meeting — request funding and cost analysis. i. ADA changes need to be made. ii.
