III. Strategy Team Report
a. George Hilderbrandt spent time going over the most recent survey regarding
Senior Services (2019, report from TX A&M in 2020) He looked at Senior
responses(400-450) regarding parks, rec center and senior services.
b. There were 3 categories;
Awareness
Usage
Satisfaction
In summary:
Rec Center A-55%
U-47%
S-68%
Parks A-51%
U-
S-81%
Senior Services
A-37% (21% answered not informed)
U-27% (123 of 450)
S- 38% (29% answered don’t know)
Conclusions: Since there was other information on specific dissimilar programs
that was lumped in with the results it was difficult to parse out relevant
information.
The survey had overall very positive responses, i.e. walkability, quick responses
of emergency services, sidewalks, general programs.
Areas of Strategic Focus
1. Be looped in for planning the new facility
2. Measurement—get specifics, form a committee to work on this
3. Communication to community needs to improve—email, website, mailouts,Hi
neighbor, Selby suggested star review system like Amazon does.
4. Toby noted the city had hired a new communication coordinator since the
survey was done.
c. Candace Tenbrink—Moving Forward
Where are we in Strategic Planning? We have our Mission and Vision
statements completed and agreed upon.
There are two ways to proceed—Top Down or Bottom Up
The team recommends doing both.
The team will work on top down (interviewing City council, staff, etc)
Senior Board members will take on Bottom Up,( talking to neighbors, friends,
seeking out users and non- users, all seniors and all residents)Safety, Wellness,
community and Social engagement and Life long learning
Prior to voting, Allan noted the old survey was probably out of date especially
with COVID and society’s changing needs. Candyce B asked for more specifics
Before voting. Ann described more on the general idea.
Candace T suggested we vote on 3 options—
Top Down 1
Bottom up 0
Hybrid doing both 10 votes
Discussion followed on need for a template, or questions for Bd Members to use
when interviewing. George B, Candyce B & Ann will meet and come up with this
prior to our Dec meeting.
IV. Current Building Usage
Ann reported that Toby and Patricia are keeping records of the usage of all the
rooms in the community center in order to best use what we have. Mahjong and
Pickle Ball are both booming. They have just moved the games tables into the larger
activity room so it can now accommodate 9 or 10 tables of 4 rather than 6.
George B. ideas for new center: Lounge, coffee, arts & crafts room with sink, art
exhibit area, music room. As you come upon ideas send to George.
