ORDINANCE NUMBER 1181
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF
WEST UNIVERSITY PLACE, TEXAS, BY AMENDING SECTION 22-3; PRO-
VIDING THAT IF THE TAXPAYER FILES A SWORN APPLICATION WITH
tHE TAX ASSESSOR DURING THE TAX YEAR ESTABLISHING THAT HIS
PROPERTY IS A REStDENCE HOMESTEAD AND IS OWNED AND OCCUPIED
BY PERSONS 65 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER THAT FORTY~TWO THOUSAND
EIGHT HUNDRED AND FIFTY ($42,850) DOLLARS OF THE ASSESSED
VALUATION OF SUCH HOMESTEAD SHALL BE EXEMPT FROM TAXATION;
AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY'COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF WEST UNIVERSITY
PLACE, TEXAS:
Section 1. That Section 22-3 of the Code of Ordinances of the City
of West University Place, Texas is hereby amended so that hereafter said
Section 22-3 shall read as follows:
IISection 22-3. Homestead tax exemption for elderly.
If a taxpayer files a sworn application for homes1:ead
exemption with the tax assessor at any time up to and
including the last day of December of a tax year estab-
lishing that his property is a residence homestead owned
and occupied by persons 65 years of age or older, forty-
two thousand eight hundred fifty dollars ($42,850) of the
assessed value of such homeste~d shall be exempted from
ad valorem taxes as assessed and levied for that year.
Application forms mayb~ furnished by the Tax Assessor
and Collector."
Section 2. That this ordinance shall take effect and be in force
immediately from and after its passage and approval as required by law.
