ORDINANCE NUMBER 1176
"AN 'ORD'I NANCE AMEND I NG THE CODE OF ORD I NANCES OF THE CITY OF
WEST UNIVERSITY PLACE, TEXAS, BY THE ADDITION OF CERTAIN
PROVISIONS PROVIDING FOR THE INSPECTION AND LICENSING OF
PUBLIC AND SEMI-PUBLIC SWIMMING POOLS; AND PROVIDING A
PENALTY AND EFFECTIVE DATE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF WEST UNIVERSITY
PLACE, TEXAS:
Section 1. That the Code of Ordinances of the City of West Univer-
sity Place is hereby amended so that hereafter Section 21-74 is added and
shall read as follows:
IISection 21-74. Health inspection of pools.
(a) All public and semi-public swimming pools shall be properly
maintained throughout all times of use and shall be inspected
at least once each month of usage.
(b) All public and semi-public swimming pools shall be licensed
by the City Health Department and shall pay a licensing fee of
Twenty-Five ($25.00) Dollars per annum and said license shall
expire on the 1st day of May each year, and may be issued for
an unexpired portion of the year upon payment in ~dvance of the
annual fee.
(c) All public and semi-public swimming pools shall maintain a
water pH between 7.2 to 7.8; shall maintain a free chlorine
residucal of 1.0 ppm to 0.5 ppm (ppm = parts per million);
shall be kept in a sanitary condition, free of algae, dirt,
oil and litter; shall maintain the water in a reasonably
clear state; and shall be kept free of glass and glass con-
tainers.
(d) All public and semi-public swimming pools that are not in use
shall keep water clear enough to see to the bottom; or shall
be drained.1I
Section 2. That the Code of Ordinances of the City of West Univer-
sity Place, Texas, is hereby amended so that hereafter Section 21-75 is added
and shall read as follows:
IISection 21-75. Penalty.
Any person violating any provisions of this ordinance shall be
deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction, shall be fined
not less than $1.00 nor more than $200.00. Each day such violation
occurs shall constitute a separate offense.1I

Section 3. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect imme-
diately from and after its passage and approval by the Mayor.
