Flood c ontrol

Senior Needs Assessment workshop
City Council workshop on needs of seniors to remain in West U. is scheduled for Wednesday,
December 4 (2 p.m.)

Good Neighbor Team has completed 20 years of service, pioneered by Stan McCandless,
Dorothy Zink and Mary Lee Gray.
December 10 is Poinsetta Day – need volunteers to deliver flowers . 80 additional names of
residents 85 years and older. VSOPS (Very Special Older People).
Selby Clark proposed that the head of the Good Neighbor Team be an ex officio member of the
Seniors Board.
APAC R EPORT
AARP has a v olunte er program. Houston has a program f o r Meals fo r t h e Elderly (volunteers
needed). A Chair Tai Chi class begins in January. TheA “SilverAHairedA Legislators”A thatAmeetsA
inA Austin have 8 representatives from Harris County.
A Christmas chorus by individuals living with Alzheimer's, their care partners and
volunteers is scheduled for December 7 at Chapel Wood at noon in the chapel at
Methodist Church (11140 Greenbay St, Houston, TX 77024, near Memorial and Voss).
P ARKS AND R ECREATION
Consideration is being given to repurposing the area in Colonial Park presently used as a
volleyball court. A Colonial Park User ’sAGroupAisAbeingAformed : Candace TenBrink and George
Baker volunteered to serve as the Board representatives ;
Upgrading of Whitt Johnson Park near completion. Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony is
scheduled for December 2, at 5:30 p.m.
S ENIOR S ERVICES R EPORT
Volunteer Luncheon, November 19
Contra Dancing series continues, meeting 1 st & 3 rd Saturdays from 7:30-9:30 p.m.
