SENIORS BOARD MEETING
March 14 , 201 9

The meeting was called to order at 2:0 0 p.m.
Roll call:
P resent : Selby Clark, Candyce Beneke, John Palmer, Ann Crowley, Joan Johnson, Tom Brombacher ,
Virginia Lootens , Susan Davis , George Baker , Judy Faulkner, Rebecca Dozier
Absent : Carlos de la Torre, Stan McCandless
Minutes: The minutes (as submitted by George with notes from Candyce) were amended and approved.

Minutes of February 14 were approved (as submitted by George).

Council M eeting R eport: Mardi Turner
1. City charter amendments are on the ballot. Votes needed for mayor pro -tem.
2. Provision to allow for three terms of two years each for mayor and city council members.

machine.
4. ATT has withdrawn its applicat ion for a variance ; legal issues dropped.
5. Recreation Center enhancements to be paid for by Friends of the Park.
6. Security cameras. Five vendors are bidding. 16 locations to be decided in first phase.
7. Two police officer positions have not been filled for a y ear.
8. Service of Direct Link to police station for $35/month.
Parks and Recreation: Susan White
1. RFP due on March 14 for the remodeling of the Rec Center
2. Whitt Johnson Park – equipment there is from 1998 ; gazebo not utilized; ideas under
consideration; add equipment for 2 -5 year -olds.

APAC Report
1. Virginia did not attend t he January meeting for health reasons.
2. APAC meets on the 1 st Thursday of the month at 9 a.m. Toby suggested having a back -up
representative, but a volunteer did not step forward.
Good Neighbor Team: Toby Brooks
1. Team to meet March 21 (Thursday). Gifts planned for home -bound seniors.
Senior Services report: Toby Brooks
1. Body Pump class – MWF (full). So a new class was created that will Thursday s 10:15.
$18/month for four classes). To start in April.
2. Theme meal. 80 attended.
3. Chinese medicine (lecture)
4. “Hou stonAMurderA&AScandal”A(lecture)A – 50+ people
5. Speed Friendship Day will be held on Tuesday, April 16 at noon. There will be four interest
groups (Nature, Trains/Planes/Cars, Cooking, Arts/Cultural ). People will be paired up for a few
minutes to learn about theAotherAperson.A fterwards;ApeopleAcanAreconnectAifAthere’sAaAmatchA
of interests and chemistry. Phone numbers will not be given out. Sign up required. A
suggestion was made for Toby to sign up every member of the Seniors Board .
6. TheA“contra”AdancingAseri es continues, meeting 1 st & 3 rd Saturdays from 7:30 -9:30 p.m.
7. Spanish classes continue.
8. Another exercise class planned (Tues/Thurs 8:30 a.m.) with weights and cardio.
9. Summer newsletter in preparation
10. Need two additional board members
11. Noted Community Center is open for all, 7:30 a.m. -5:30 p.m. with coffee and wi -fi
12. Regarding venue for seniors: Parks are open all day long

1. Mention of paperless billing for water bill

1. Consider invitation to lawyer Ruth -Ann Toups to give a presentation on estate planning (she
is available June and July).
