Scooter Lerner, Spyros Maragos, and Nina Pilson Staff: Susan White VISITORS A lida D r ewes I. Call to Order : T he mee ting was called to order at 6:37 pm by C hair Peter Billipp . II. Approval of November 1 , 2017 Meeting Minutes : Motion to approve the m in utes was made by Peter Billipp with a second from Nina Pilson . Motion passed unanimously. III. Public Comments : Comments by Alida Drewes. Feels that senior citizens have to pay for the gym and recreation center which is not fair as fees have gone up along with cost of living. She also stated that there were no senior activities on Sunday in which they can participate. She feels strongly that the senior community have paid for our infrastructure and aren’t getting anything in return from the city of West U. IV. Friends Overview : Mark Presco tt not present so passed on his Park Lovers Ball update. V. Board Member Updates : Park Ambassador updates: Tracy wanted to discuss blockage of streets around the Xmas tree lighting and how Rice Blvd becomes impassable to traffic if cars are allowed to park on either block of Auden on Rice. MaryAnn recently visited Whitt Johnson park and found an area where the edging meets the turf there are some exposed rusty nails th at need attention/fixed . Also at Judson Park there are several large mushrooms growing on a tree that could be dangerous if a kid touches or eats one. MaryAnn had noticed on a recent visit that Colonial Park grass looked great and was flat and even throug hout . VI. Staff & City Council Updates:  Council Update none  Staff Update : Susan White 1. JEH Park: Susan still waiting to hear an update on timeline from White Oak Studio on the demolition schedule . 2. Committee Assignments: Susan explained the 3 different committees: program planning, fee schedule, and parks recycling committees. Their descriptions will be emailed so each parks board member can sign up for a committee starting in the new year. Susan switched out recycling for the customer service committee to ensure consistent recycling standards at each park. 3. Misc Updates – on 11/28 an email was sent out to request ideas from Parks and Recreation Board Minutes page 2 various citizens on our current tennis policy and responses were requested by 12/17 which will be used t o formulat e our future tennis court policies and reserving courts. WUPRC swim schedule has been revised to increase open family time and reviewed pool/deck rules. Stephen Damiani mentioned that Family Swim may be missed, and asked about deck rules and enfo rce ment a s Nina Pilson felt that they do not enforce having no parents on the deck. WUPRC upstairs diaper table cannot be installed due to ADA compliance. Park repairs will be under way including painting of Whitt Johnson park medal fence and replacement of north and NW sections of wooden fence. Also tree maintenance will begin before end of the year with the removal of 2 crepe myrtles at Wier Park , a pine at Huffington , and a water oak and lace bark elm at Judson Park as recomm ended by our arborist. VII. By Laws Discussion: Peter suggested letting the city attorney make necessary changes to the by -laws and then PRB can review one final time. VIII. Park Master Plan; Park Redevelopment Program. After reviewing the handout, Susan recomme nded that consideration be given to Whitt Johnson ahead of Huffington. As some features like the gazebo may be underutilized. Colonial Park wooden elements are showing wear and tear. Also a few people commented on the Colonial Park volleyball court and m aking that a new space for zip lining or some other activity as it is currently serving as a big sand box and unused space. Susan is working with Texas A & M to obtain survey data related to usage for each of the parks. IX. New Business No new business X. Adjournment . M eeting adjourned at 7 :1 8 p.m.
