CITY COUNCIL WORKSHOP
The City Council of the City of West University Place, Texas, met in a workshop on Monday ,
September 18 , 201 7 , in the Municipal Building, 3800 University, West University Place, Texas
beginning at approximately 6 :00 p.m.
Agenda items were as follows:
1. Matters related to 2017 -2019 City Council goals. Recommended Action: Discuss and take any
desired action.
The following goals (in no particular order) were outlined as a result of discussion:
• Proactive city marketing/communication (webpage/multi -media) and social media
program – Resident facing/easy/all inclusive (all customers.) Project Updates.
• Police crime prevention - (communications/awareness).
• Enhance marketing and market penetration for Direct Link program from 55% to 75% of
alarmed homes.
• Continue to improve auto pay levels to eliminate paper billing etc. from 93% to 40%.
• Complete comprehensive study of City drainage and prioritize improvements taking
advantage of any mitigation grant funding.
• Direct Building and Standards Commission to review and present elevation criteria
(building/foundation height) to improve properties for futu re extreme weather events.
• Review all consulting contracts. (park landscaping, energy, benefits, engineering etc.).
• Evaluate increase (up to) 100% renewable energy sources.
• Prepare for replacement of City Manager.
• Complete a comprehensive parks inventory a nd asset review including utilization of
components within each individual park.
• Complete comprehensive review of parks programming and vendors.
• Work on Memorandum of Understanding with Tri -Sports/Piranhas Swim Team regarding
trash and recycling requiring compliant non -contaminated recycled stream.
• Review scope of Friends of WUP Fund, Inc. to ascertain viability of acquisition of
property to expand existing parks to their program/goals.
• Real property acquisition – response time and advance approval .
2. Mayor Sample adjourned the meeting at 8:25 p.m .
