CITY COUNCIL ACTION MINUTES
The City Council of the City of West University Place, Texas, met in special session on Monday ,
August 28 , 201 7 , in the Municipal Building, 3800 University, West University Place, Texas beginning at
approximately 7 :00 p.m.
Agenda items were as follows:
Call ed Meeting to Order . Mayor Sample called the meeti ng to order at approximately 7:00 p.m. in the
Council Chambers . Council and Staff in attendance were: Mayor Pro Tem Franklin, Councilmembers ,
Burke, Higley, and Turner, City Manager Peifer, City Attorney Petrov, Public Works Director Beach ,
Parks and Recreation Director White, IT Director McFarland, and Police Chief Walker. City Secretary
Gilliam was absent due to Hurricane Harvey .
Council reserved the right to at any time during the special meeting convene in a closed
session pursuant to Chapter 551 of the Texas Government Code for reasons related to Section
551.074 (personnel matters).
Agenda items were as follows:
1. Discuss and consider candidates interviewed to fill positions on the City’s v arious boards and
commissions. Recommended Action: Discuss and take any desired action .
Mayor Sample recessed the special meeting to convene an executive session in accordancne
with Section 551.074 (personnel matters) of Chapter 5 51 of the Texas Government Code to
discuss the statuat ory board and commission.
At 7:55 p.m., Councilmember Higley moved to close the executive session and reconvene the
special meeting. Mayor Pro Tem Franklin seconded the motion. MOTION PASSED.
Ayes: Sample, Franklin, Burke, Higley, Turner
Noes: None
Absent: None
Discussion regarding the candidates and the selection process ensued.
2. Adjourn
After discussing candidates and proposed appointments for all the boards and commissions,
the meeting adjourned at approximately 10:00 p.m.
