West University Place Comprehensive Plan Update
As an early step in the long-range planning process, plan consultant Kendig Keast Collaborative
(KKC) will facilitate a "big picture" workshop discussion with the Zoning and Planning Commission.
The discussion is intended to last no more than one hour.
PURPOSES
• Brief everyone on the Comprehensive Plan process and timeline.
• Ensure early input and direction to the plan consultants,to help focus their
work.
• Highlight the special characteristics and circumstances of West University
Place as context for the plan update.
Workshop Considerations
The discussion is intended to be informal and interactive. Likely discussion points will include:
Looking Back
• Ways in which West University Place is the same/different since the last Comprehensive Plan in
2000.
• Major community accomplishments over the last 10+years.
• Things considered or set out to do but did not accomplish ... Why?
Looking Ahead
• Opportunities and challenges in the following areas:
- Demographic trends
- Land use and development/redevelopment
- Transportation (vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists,transit)
- Capital projects (streets, infrastructure, facilities, etc.)
- Recreation and amenities (implementation of new Parks Master Plan)
- Community appearance
- Others
Where to Focus
• Strategic issues involving the physical characteristics of West University Place that must be
addressed—or remain an ongoing focus—in the new Comprehensive Plan.
• Your personal hopes/priorities for the community in serving as an appointed advisory official.
• The most difficult community issues you have had to deal with—or anticipate if recently
appointed—as members of the Zoning and Planning Commission.
