This item was placed on the agenda for general discussion purposes. The idea stems from
discussion that took place in regards to floodplain regulations regarding landscaping
cutting and debris washing into the storm sewers.

Subject: Garden Leaf Disposal in West University
Hello Michael,
There is a problem occurring here in West U on a daily basis which really needs to
be addressed. It has to do with garden leaf and trimmings disposal.
Many of the lawn services blow leaves off properties and into the streets, where
they eventually just blow right back onto the same, or other properties. Even worse, they
often blow the leaves into the storm sewers.
Is there any way we can come up with a solution for this? Can lawn services be
required to carry leaves away? Should home owners be required to provide the bags for leaf
collection? Should a lawn service that blows leaves down a storm sewer be first warned,
and then fined?
Our own lawn service has always carried away all our leaves and lawn clippings, in a
responsible manner. It is something we feel is necessary for our Community and our
neighbors. It CAN be done.
Very truly yours,
Vic & Elly DiFranco
