Everything went as planned on the night of February 7 th ! Many thanks to the city staff, to the members of the board and to all of the sponsors that made this event a success! The eve nt is looking to have grossed $438,000! $30,000 of that will be donated to the West University Elementary Foundation to help rebuild the park on the corner of University and Edloe (that is widely used by the community). There is still some availability on the sociable s : Cinco De Mama, The Marquis Party and the Spooky Party —all are sure to be a good time! There are also some photos from the photo contest still available for purchase ($25 for the smaller and $50 for the larger). Overall the consensus is happy with the Omni and their staff. V. Parks and Recreation Report (Tim O’Connor) Most of the news that would be repor ted on is detailed in his weekly emailed reports. He is currently working on park signage. The video shown at PLB was very nice and Tim confirmed permission from Donna to post it on the city’s website. Permission was granted. VI. Other Reports and Announcements (Donna LaMond) PLB2015 - The PLB2015 chairs’ report says it all. Completely successful event! Congratulations to these couples who have worked tirelessly on behalf of our neighborhood parks. We are meeting next week to go over the event while it is still fresh on ou r minds. We are always looking for ways to continue to make PLB a sold out event each year. Thanks also to Sue and Gary Hanna for serving as our honorary chairs. I would like to take this opportunity to present a token of our appreciation to the event ch airs. Each chair will get a paver in their West U park of choice. Matt Foytlin will coordinate the paver orders and inscriptions for each couple. We are identifying more places for pavers in popular Wier P ark as well as making plans to replace any pav ers that are damaged. We are excited to have Frost Bank as our new Party on the Patio Concert Series Sponsor for 2015. The concert bands have already been secured and the concerts will take place on Friday evenings in June. Thank you Frost Bank! Req uested checks from our treasurer to reimburse the City for park improvements approved for funding in 2014 and completed to date. These improvements include remaining reforestation expenses at Judson Park and the West U Rec Center, Tennis court lighting at Judson Park, Judson Court Amenities, Colonial Park Turf project and the West U Rec Center playground fencing. The total is $106,102.20. Friends is proud to be able to provide the funds for these projects. Fathers & Flashlights 2015 – We can expect a rep ort next month from our new F & F chairs, Kelly and Sean Butler, Kristin e and Joaquin Martinez, and Kara and Curt Schaefer. The first priority is setting the date and they are working on that.
Prepared and presented a Friends projects and goals list to t he City for 2015. Among our goals is developing an underwriting and sponsorship committee that will add additional support to Friends efforts including F & F and PLB. We will have more information on this committee’s actions next month. A committee has been assembled to help identify possible PLB2016 event chairs. This committee will meet on March 2. This will be the 25 th anniversary of the ball and I have tentatively scheduled the ball for Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016 at the Omni. Meanwhile, if you have names to suggest for PLB2016 event chairs, please call or email me. Please note that we will not have a board meeting in March due to spring breaks. Our next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 8th a t 11:30 am here at the Rec Center. May will be our annual Star Citizen Awards luncheon. That date has not yet been set. Friends lapel pin s are available to any of yo u who do not already have one. If you do not have one, please take one before you leave today.
