HomeMy WebLinkAbout080999S CC Min CITY COUNCIL WORKSHOP SESSION MONDAY, AUGUST 9, 1999 MUNICIPAL BUILDING 3800 UNIVERSITY BLVD. 6:30 P.M. The City Council convened in Workshop Session in the Municipal Building Conference Room (3800 University Blvd.) on August 9, 1999, with the following members present: Mayor Lewis presiding, Council Members Ballanfant, Bertini, Grubb and May. The City Manager, Assistant City Secretary, City Attorney, Police Chief, Finance Director and Public Works Director were also present. AGENDA REVIEW: The City Council reviewed the regular meeting agenda and discussed items under consideration with the Staff. QUARTERLY REPORT: The City Staff presented the Quarterly Report. Council Member Grubb requested a report on Colonial Park Pool fees, focusing on increasing nonresident fees. The City Council recessed the Workshop Session at 7:30 . The Workshop Session PM reconvened at 8:39 . PM ZONING AND PLANNING COMMISSION: Matters related to zoning and long range priorities. The Zoning and Planning Commission reported that a draft list of next year's important issues and goals had been prepared, but was not yet in final form. The commission will discuss the draft at their next meeting on Thursday, August 12. A final draft of the commission's long range priorities will be presented to Council at the next workshop session. REPORT FROM BOARD OR COMMISSION LIASION: The City Council reported on a Board or Commission meeting attended by the liaison. Council Member Ballanfant reported on the meeting held by the Parks Board. Council Member Bertini reported on the meeting held by the Traffic Task Force. City Council Workshop Session, August 9, 1999 Council Member May reported on the meeting held by the Building and Standards Commission. INQUIRIES, REQUESTS AND COMPLAINTS: Council Member Bertini commended staff for handling the previous requests in a timely fashion. The City Council reviewed matters received from the public and referred them to the appropriate department. Mayor Lewis requested a report from the City Attorney regarding solicitation and the tightening up of the solicitation ordinance in order to prevent the delivery of unwanted publications. Council Member Ballanfant commended both the Director of Finance and the City Attorney for their responsiveness on his requests. BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS: Matters related to the appointment of Board and Commission Members. Mayor Lewis commended the City Secretary for her work on investigating and preparing applications for Council's review. Council discussed matters relating to the appointment of Board and Commission Members. City Council set up a workshop to be held Monday, August 16 at 7:00 to continue the PM discussion of this item. Council also agreed to extend the application deadline to Friday, August 13. ADJOURNMENT: With no further business to come before the City Council at this time, a motion was made by Council Member Bertini, seconded by Council Member Grubb, to adjourn.
