HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes 2013-04 Naming Fire Chief Ralls Chief EmeritusCity 0 West University Place Harris County, Tess I833.191i[•1�t.Pb34[�SIJ TO COMMEND CITY OF WEST UNIVERSITY PLACE FIRE CHIEF STEVE FALLS FOR HIS THIRTY - NINE YEARS OF DISTINGUISHED SERVICE TO THE WEST UNIVERSITY PLACE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND FOR HIS LAST TEN YEARS OF SERVICE AS CHIEF UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT. Whereas, the members of Me City Council have Teamed with regret that Fire Chief Steve Rails of the City of West University Place Fire Department will be retiring at the of June 2013 after having completed ten years of service as chief and a total of thirty -nine years service with the department; and Whereas, Chief Falls joined the tlepartment in 1974, became a lieutenant in 1982, became a captain in 1998, and in 2004 became chief; and Whereas, Chief Rails was One of the six onginal paramedics and the first certified fire inspector in the tlepartment; and Whereas, during his tenure as Chief, Chief Palls procured grants from federal, state, and private sectors totaling over $520,00000 for Fire, EMS, and Emergency Management training and physical Fitness equipment for the department, upgraded and measured Me Citys Emergency Management capabilities from basic to advanced level as rated by the Terns Division of Emergency Management, served as the City's Incident Commander for Hurricane Ike preparation, response and recovery, instituted a firefighter health and wellness program, supervised Me fire station remodel and EOC design and construction projects, and instituted Me Fire Safety Clown Fire Prevention Program; and Whereas, Chief Rails is without question one 0 the fines) chiefs that Me fire department of West University Place has ever had and Whereas, the members of the City Council believe that it would be a thing tribute to this outstanding firefighter for West University Place to name Chief Rails as Fire Chief Emeritus of Me department; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WEST UNIVERSITY PLACE, TEXAS THAT: That Me members of the City Council hereby thank Chief Ralls for his outstanding service to this City, county, and State upon Me occasion of his retirement and commend him for his thirty -nine years of distinguished service to the West University Place Fire Department; and he it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be given to Chief Rails. • StO ft'PPROVED AND ADOPTED this Me 22n° day April of 2013. ^s S L C SIGNED: Thelma A• Lenz , City Secretary Bob Fry, Ma r RE'CX) BX: APPROVED AS TO Michael Ross, City �(Manager Alan P.
