I. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 6:36 pm by the chair John Wilkinson.
II. Approval of Minutes: Following a motion by IC Kneale and a second by Sona West, the
October 3, 2012 minutes were approved.
III. PRB Sub-Committee Updates:
• John stated that the Parkland Acquisition Sub-Committee has recently spoken with some
land owners but no preliminary agreements are in place yet. If agreements are reached
and Council is supportive, the issue will likely go to the public to see what the level of
support is within the community. No vote was taken, but board members discussed costs-
benefits of new parkland. Tim stated that it is very important to let the neighbors know
what kind of development concept would go into the park before discussing with them and
Sona suggested that a forward timeline is needed. John will work with the City Manager
on a timeline for review at the December meeting.
• Melissa said there were no updates for the Program Planning Sub-Committee.
• The Customer Service and Communications and Public Relations Sub-Committees had a
joint meeting to talk about developing an App for the City of West University Place. Other
venues for communication like City Currents and the WUES PTO email blasts were also
suggested. Kristen is the contact for WUES PTO communications since she helps with the
website.
• David gave a summary of the Naming Rights Policies/Procedures/Laws for some
neighboring cities. Tim suggested a workshop with City Council to develop a naming
policy.
IV. Friends Overview: Amanda McGee was not at the meeting. Tim gave an update:
Everything is going well with the Park Lover's Ball and Father's and Flashlights was
extremely successful. Amy will coordinate Park Board table(s) for the Park Lover's Ball, so
interested board members should contact her.
V. America Recycles Day Review- John was able to visit with various families during the
America Recycles Day to see what improvements they were interested in seeing
implemented in the parks. Some things people mentioned were: longer pool season,
shade structures, more swings at Weir and Huffington and path lighting along the Colonial
Park Path. Melissa gave a list of other suggestions including more movies, ways to
implement advertising, and improvements for the Fall Festival. David said he didn't get too
much feedback, but also heard that many people would like extended pool hours. Susan
also heard that people would like more shade structures in Colonial Park.
VI. Five Year WUP Parks Redevelopment Plan Update: JC stated that the Park Redevelopment
