Present: John Neighbors (Chair), George Baker, Joe Mitchell, Michelle Moore, Sarah Ballanfant, Mary
Ryerson, Selby Clark, Chuck Guffey, and Virginia Lootens Absent: Stan McCandless, Janet Vrancken,
Pieter Vrancken. Staff: Tim O'Connor, Toby Brooks. Councilwoman Joan Johnson. Guests: Kat Oliver and
Mathew Elliott, administration interns attended. The Meeting was called to order at 2:03 PM. The
Minutes of the May 10th meeting were approved.
Activities (Toby Brooks) Took a trip to the Water Color Society and Ruggles restaurant, was a full 14
in attendance, the Alpaca Farm precinct trip had 24 in attendance. Newsletter for the fall expected to it
the homes early part of August.
APAC (Virginia Lootens) Meeting was on June 7"' talked about Older American's month event on March
9"' was a success. The Beat the Heat program as also mentioned about how window AC units could be
provided by Reliant, will provide them.
Council (Joan Johnson) Residents on Riley indicated the heavy rain and drainage issues seem to have
improved. Council approved the sale of Marlowe property. Senior Resident advocate attended council
meeting to ask for assistance in dealing with a "shared' tree. Tree had been deemed dead by arborists
however the owner of the property will not respond to the request to have it removed. They want it
removed in case it falls on the home of the senior resident. There is no current ordinance but City
Manager said they would look into reviewing the situation. Council approved Charter Review Committee.
Phyllis Cohen, chair and John Neighbors, Vice-chair will review and make any recommendations to Mayor
and City Council. Council approved Investment Policy and Annual Comprehensive Financial Report on
June 11"'. Waste Management was awarded the 3 year contract after reviewing all competitive bids.
The net revenue of this program should be $129,745. The resident survey (400 people) is being
completed and will be presented in the near future. The Traffic Engineer will be conducting a
presentation on Monday, June 25"' to report his findings of the Town Hall Meeting conducted in April,
about Street Parking.
Good Neighbor Team (Michelle Moore) The West U Handymen met at the beginning of the month to
discuss ways to improve the service and protect the volunteers. A waiver for the resident to sign before
work begins is being worked on as well as a script for the volunteers so all information being delivered is
consistent. An overview of what the Good Neighbor Team does was explained for the interns to have a
better understanding of the program. Three new volunteers started and bags were scheduled to be
delivered on June 20"' with nigh lights, water key lights and some additional smaller items.
PARD (Tim O'Connor) Members were referred to the Weekly Operations Summary
Any Other Business Discussion on the three vacant senior board positions, we are still actively looking
and recommending folks.
The next meeting will be held on September 13th.
