III. PRB Sub-Committee Updates:
• There will be a couple of changes to some of the sub-committees. John asked members to
indicate if they would like to make any other changes.
• John gave an update on the Parkland Acquisition Sub-Committee's work. There has been
some discussions with some land owners over the summer. There are some possibilities,
but nothing is for sure at this point.
• Melissa gave an update on the Program Planning Sub-Committee. The possibility of
cancelling the Halloween Spooktacular Haunted House was discussed. It will most probably
be cancelled and in it's place the Park and Recreation Department will plan another event.
The Program Planning Sub-Committee is also working on some other ideas like dance parties
and open gym for tweens/teens. Santa's Night Out was not getting a lot of response, but
the board found a possible error in pricing.
• Moya gave an update on the Customer Service Sub-Committee. Susan is going to look into
some different apps that people might be able to use. The Sub-Committee will also place
some signs over the suggestion boxes so people will know where they can leave their input.
A feedback button was added to the web, and other ways of obtaining feedback were
mentioned. Tim would like to see surveys used to gain more input from citizens, starting
with a survey regarding pool concessions.
• The Communications & Public Relations Sub-Committee's met in the spring, but have not
met since. David will step down from the committee, but Susan and Moya will be joining.
• John spoke for J.C regarding the Facilities Sub-Committee. The Sub-Committee is working
on a 5 year plan which they will share with the PRB at the October meeting. The plan will
then be shared with the Friends Board.
• David will head the Park's Naming Rights Sub-Committee. Some structure needs to be put
in place regarding the naming rights.
IV. Friends Overview: Amanda McGee gave an update on the Friends Meeting which was held
earlier today. A reception was held for Leah Ragiel, outgoing Friends Chair. Updates were
given on Fathers and Flashlights and the Park Lover's Ball.
V. Board members Updates
• John stated that Friends Park looks great.
• Melissa said that the 2-5 area of Weir Park is very shaded and many people continued to
use the park throughout the summer. The 5-12 area is very hot. Melissa said she sent
pictures to Tim of shade structures. Right now, it looks like two options are shading either
the play structure or the whole plan footprint.
