r--_ - - - I. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 6:33 pm by the chair John Wilkinson.
II. Approval of Minutes: Following a motion by Moya Varner and a second by Kristen
Woiwode-Flores, the April 4 th minutes were approved.
III. PRB Sub-Committee Updates:
• John gave an update on the Parkland Acquisition Sub-Committee's work. The Committee is
going to contact some potential park land owners and see if there is any potential interest.
A phone survey is going to be done regarding potential park interest in the fall.
• Melissa gave an update on the Program Planning Sub-Committee. They met this morning
and bounced around some ideas for the Fourth of July Parade and pool party. There is
interest is starting the parade at an earlier time- possibly 9:00 or 9:15. Some possible
suggestions included having balloons, clowns, or misting systems.
• The Customer Service Sub-Committee has not met yet, but will try to schedule a meeting
soon.
• The Communications & Public Relations Sub-Committee's has not met yet, but will try to
schedule a meeting soon.
• The Facilities Sub-Committee had no updates; however, Tim mentioned some ideas that
they might contemplate such as park elements (like a swing zipline), signs for the parks,
trees and shade structures.
IV. Friends Overview: Leah Ragiel reported that the Friends Board had their final meeting until the
fall. Star Citizen Awards were presented to the Fathers and Flashlights and Park Lover's Ball Chairs.
Three new members were added to the Friends Board. Park and Recreation Board Members will be
eligible to enroll during Priority Registration for Fathers and Flashlights. Leah will be stepping down
as the Friends Chair. Amanda McGee will be the upcoming Friends Chair.
V. Board members Updates:.
• John stated that he hasn't been by the Friends Park since he got back in town.
• Melissa said Weir Park is looking great. She's found a great spot for a tree at Weir Park.
• Amy stated that the animal tiles are mixed up at Judson Park. Tim said more and more
people are complaining about available tennis court times. He said the Park and Recreation
Department is looking into the issue.
• Sona said that parking is better at Huffington Park.
• Susan said there are no updates for Colonial Park.
• Leah said that Whitt Johnson Park was looking a little dry, but that she would check it
tonight.
• Tim stated that the instillation of the baseball backstops was about 4 weeks behind.
VI. Staff Updates: Tim gave updates on the following:
• Alcohol Ordinance Update: The first reading has been approved. Some private
functions will be allowed to have alcohol.
